Just wondering if driving schools are spending any time talking about or teaching about CSA 2010. Maybe there's no reason to talk about it. If they, the schools, stress (and stress and stress and stress) safety and good driving practices, graduating newbies will start out with skill sets and mind sets that lend themselves to good BASICs. Back to the question, is understanding CSA 2010 in the curriculum?

I am wondering the same myself. I don't think they'll spend much time on it myself. However I've been out of the truck for several months do to the death of my brother and will now have to go through a school to get back into driving. I start Jan 4th so I guess I'll find out - and keep you posted. Also, I found with my previous school the best lessons were from the instructor's experience - not what they read out of a book. With CSA 2010 being brand new if they to touch on the subject it will be the instructors interpretation out of a book - not as good as experience in my book. I think it will also depend on the school. The first time I went to SAGE, at my expense and was impressed with the curriculum and 1 on 1 drive time, this time I'm going to C1, at WIA's expense, which seams to be a far inferior school. -

There really is no reason for the schools to get into it !!! Most students won't last, and if they do last, they'll have time to learn about it. Of course you folks that hang out here at, THE TRUCKERS REPORT, will be ahead of the game, right !! Merry Christmas !!

One thing you do have to look forward to. Is job openings.
Trucking advocates estimate we will lose 175,000 drivers in the first year alone. With CSA 2010.JustSonny Thanks this. -
I don't see where they are getting this number.JustSonny Thanks this. -

Its not all on the drivers either. The companies ae in the same boat. As I understand it you or a company will be given 3 chances. 1st Violation and its a letter, more or less letting the violator know to correct this. 2nd violation and it will be a fine. 3rd Violation and its an complete audit and if a same violation is found, thats it. That applies whether your a driver or a trucking company. 3 Violations is all your allowed.
Also I heard last week that the onboard recorders regulation had been sent to the whitehouse for signature. If your company has a bad safety rating, then the onboard recorders will be required.
For those of you interested, a few months ago when the talk of the 2010 regs started, OOIDA estimated that between drivers and companies that would be disqualified would be = to 30-40% of the present trucks on the road now. Everyone had really watch their backs this next year and for petes sake start sticking together. -
But we'll know soon.JustSonny Thanks this.
