well I'm confused. Landline had a 1 hour interview the other day with the gurus at FMCSA and they said they were NOT assigning safety ratings to a driver only to the carriers. Landline asked about the point system for the drivers on their web site and FMCSA said that turns into a percentile thru some mathematical formular in case of a carrier audit. Also nothing will happen until 2011. I had heard JUNE/JULY of this year from some other web sites. I wish I had been able to tape that interview so us all could hear it

That's always the way it is when they start changing stuff. They make it so ridiculously impossible to understand it that nobody has a ##### clue including them.

Just like the IRS rules and regs, nice.

The thing is when it does start it will go back 2 years so start CYA .
There WILL be ratings for drivers . http://www.csa2010.com/articles/DSMS_(Driver_Safety_Measurement_System)_Methodology.htmJustSonny Thanks this. -
I think they softened the term to Driver Profiles. How nice....they're still going after drivers, not carriers. The carriers, the big ones anyway, have had this CSA 2010 thing in their hip pocket for several years now. It's nothing new to them. And I think they, the carriers, have a pretty good inkling as to what it will take to get an Unfit rating. Not only that, it's gonna be awhile before thresholds are established...plenty of time to clean up their act, if they haven't done so already. Politicians, appointed heads of government agencies, and big company big wigs make good bedfellows.

One thing that I have not seen talked about is: once the government starts to collect the data, it will become public. Right now the insurance industry has a better picture of the safety rating of trucking industry, and they for the most part keep it hidden. Once the government has a good data base up and running, the anti-trucking nuts will be using it against us.
I have one question, will the government be tracking the Canadian and Mexican companies also?

What I've read tells me that any company, from Mexico or Canada, WILL fall under DOT regs, therefore, they'll be judged right alongside the U.S. based companies. I'm not sure if I read that at fmcsa.dot.gov or heard/saw it on a recent webinar.

Have not seen many having problems up here yet.

Seems the problems reported about companies/drivers outside the U.S. are more focused on Mexico. I don't want to sound too insular but what about the requirement, I think it's somewhere around 49 CFR 391 or so, in which English language proficiency is required, not suggested, required! Communication is a vital aspect of safety, at least IMHO it is!
