Yeah, that's it, let's just build rail spurs to all towns in America with over 500 person population, that'll cure the economy. And maybe there gonna bring back the caboose too! :biggrin_25523:

I think they (FMCSA) published something that said that on-site, comprehensive "investigations" would reach 20% more carriers than CRs did. If that's true then there would still be less than 15,000 carriers/year that would receive this type of investigation. Still a drop in the bucket. The problem for the carriers, though, is not just the on-site investigations, it's the data that will be fed into MCMIS from roadside inspections. Every violation, not just those that result in OOS, will be reported. Fix-it tickets, too!

Fact #1: CSA 2010 is NOT about new regulations. No changes to FMSCRs.

Everybody has their panties in a knot over this. I was there when de-regulation came along. The only thing that happened there was freight rates getting cheaper. Everybody kept working, SSDD, despite all the "information" from reputable sources that said the sky was falling. A lot of union jobs went away, but the jobs were still there, they just weren't union anymore. When we all had to trade in our chauffer's license for a CDL it was more of the same. They were going to weed out the bad drivers, a lot of drivers would lose their jobs, it was going to get better for the good drivers, yadda yaddda yadda. The only test I had to take was the haz mat test. I was "grandfathered" in, along with most of the other drivers out there. The only difference I saw was what it cost me for my CDL with all the endorsements. The same drivers were out there driving the same trucks, SSDD. This will be more of the same in my opinion. A lot of bad drivers who do dumb sh-t on the road out there brought this on. So the politicians have to rattle their sabres and spend a bunch of money and make more useless rules to convince the public that they are doing their job. They won't make the companies clean up their act because they get too much in campaign contributions and kickbacks, so they will lay it on the driver. As usual we lose again. Just an opinion from a cynical redneck who has seen our Uncle Sam stick it too the drivers for the wrong reasons before.

The new Pre-employment Screening Program (PSP) is NOT part of CSA 2010.

Actually, it is. You will be ranked on the CSA 2010 website, and the prospective employer will be see your score.

I'm seeing a lot of rumors and conspiracy theories in this thread. There aren't any new rules or laws being passed here. If you are a safe driver, do your job, and refuse to drive equipment that won't pass a DOT inspection, CSA 2010 will not change your life what so ever. They are simply shining a spotlight on the bad carriers and bad drivers to either force them into compliance, or shut them down completely. The only thing I'm concerned about, is if you are a good driver working for a bad carrier. They will drag you down with them. Your score affects your carrier, and in some respects, the carrier's score will affect the driver. So if you are working for a bad carrier, it'd be in your best interest to start looking for a job change. If your carrier has a bad score, you are going to see more harassment at the chicken coops.

Also, another thing I see going to change: remember all those times you scaled your load and you came up 80,500 gross, and you were told, to "go ahead with it, we'll pay the fines?" Well, you can't do that anymore. Those fines will put points on your personal record. CSA 2010 really isn't about making new rules, it's just a way of shining the spotlight on the people who break the rules.

Excellent post! I think, though, that carriers will only be able to see a driver's profile as part of the pre-employment screening process and in conjunction with an on-site investigation. In the PSP process, the driver must give written permission (FOIA) for the carrier to access his/her records from NIC Tech. Of course, is a carrier going to hire a driver who will not allow access? I don't think so. Viewing a driver's profile as part of an FMCSA investigation is another story. I'm gonna go back and check what I read about that.
