Yeah, and its only going to get more complicated, the biggest problem is its not clear as to what will happen, or what is expected.

Fatigued driving is the best example: a cop pulls one of my guys over, how is he going to determine if he is fatigued?

Its just another rushed through law that was poorly thought out by people who don't know what they are getting in to. Jesus, its not even going to be here until 2011, if it goes through at all (we are planning like it will).

Its making the trucking profession less appealing to new comers (which in my industry is even harder to get people for). And the driver pool is already low, to the point where people just steal other peoples drivers.

Its more appealing for a guy to work in a union (love them or hate them) than it is to be a trucker. CSA is only making that worse, which makes my job even harder:

Come drive a hazmat truck, fill out all this paper work, check all these seals, where all this equipment, haul all this dangerous products, spend a lot of time away form home. and follow ALL these confusing complicated regulations... for X per mile. Oh yeah, you need 3 years tanker experience too... Wanna join?

Why not blind fold me, tie me up, glue to me a floor, set the building on fire and tell me to escape.

Not really. they just finally found a way to enforce the laws already on the books and make them impact your safety records.
Nobody seemed to care about many of the laws before because they seemed pretty toothless. Now they're screaming bloody murder!.

John, I understand where you're coming from and I honestly hope it comes to that very thing!

We need to professionalize this industry, with people at the top of their game and being paid accordingly. This is the only profession that pays near minimum wage, when you consider in all factors.
The more difficult and less appealing this industry looks to the common person, the more money a competent and qualified trucker is gonna fetch!
If an experienced driver keeps his nose clean, starting now. Then whatever his current record/safety standing is now, will be clean within 3 years.

As a driver, I see a driver shortage as a GOOD thing because the more I become in demand, the more money I can make without working more.

So more bureaucracy will raise your pay? Don't hold your breath driver, pigs will fly sooner.

PS There is no driver shortage
PPS Politicians are more dangerous than truckers

Recently got a message from the company. Out of x number of our trucks that have gotten DOT'd a fair number have gotten busted.

I am fastidious about lights, mudflaps and tires. Maybe I'll be ok.

For all my driving days I have been hearing about the upcoming driver shortage due to new rules. It ain't gonna happen. CDL's were supposed to weed out half the drivers. That did not work. Tighter physical guidelines got rid of only a few.DUI's are still hired by some.De-regulation,IRP plates, ifta,no big decrease in profesional freight re-locators.
Whenever these companies need drivers, they will find somebody, somewhere and put them in a truck. They cannot afford to let the driver pool get too shallow. There will always be somebody wanting to be a trucker.
I was scared of CSA 2010, due to the publicity. In reality, not much has changed, other than "BIG BROTHER" is keeping tabs a little tighter. I just hope everyone ( both drivers and LEO ) uses a little common sense.:biggrin_2558:

Ruined my perfect record today and got a speeding ticket in a CMV. 5 miles over posted and nailed by a city cop in hiding.

I'm guessing that since he didn't do the yellow form or involve the carrier at all ( reg. papers etc. ) then the damage is limited to the fine and a black mark on the CDL but the PSP will remain clear?

    Or have I missed something......
