Sailboats only have the right of way when under sail.
I have had them cut me off many times when under power. But when under power with the sails down, they are a power boat.
Just many idiots do not understand that when they are powering around on there blow boat.
I use to love sailing. Just never have time anymore. I raced from 8 years old till I moved to NY back 10 years ago or so.

This brings up a good point. CSA 2010 does not DIRECTLY go after drivers, at least not yet. FMCSA is not in the business of controlling CDLs, the states issuing the CDLs still have that authority and probably will continue to have that authority. When I say that CSA 2010 doesn't go after drivers DIRECTLY I mean that, from what I've read between the lines, drivers will be dealt with INDIRECTLY, by being terminated, when their carriers begin to see their (the carrier's) BASIC scores climbing due to the violations, citations, and even warnings to drivers that are issued during roadside inspections. Everything, everything a driver gets citation-wise, violation-wise, and yes, even warning-wise can affect a carrier's score in a BASIC category. I also believe that drivers can expect to be under increasing scrutiny as a carrier's score in a particular BASIC category begins to approach the threshold established, industry-wide, for that BASIC.trucker43 Thanks this.

Honestly anywhere but a parking lot I would just as soon be around a "Swifty" as some veteran in a day cab or an O/O pulling containers. They seem to be the ones constantly speeding, following too close, weaving through traffic, always in a hurry. Most of the big truck wrecks that cause fatalities don't involve rookies. They happen to drivers with 2+ years of experience who have gotten comfortable with the truck. The roads would be a lot safer if everyone had that little knot of fear in the gut we all experienced when we first started out.Double L, Working Class Patriot and JustSonny Thank this.

The drayage drivers run that way because they don't get paid squat for their loads....
They run the equivalent of a $.50/m load...... or to put it hourly...like the bottom-feeders who run for $45/h dump trucks...... -
I don't buy that. If they were smart they'd use their experience and find a decent job or a company to pull their loads. Most likely they started out running that way and got tickets and are forced to run the way they do. We paid for safety.JustSonny Thanks this. -
I'd like to know where you got those numbers. I drove a day cab and you're more than welcome to look up my companies numbers on SafeStat. Just look under BP Products North America inc. When you get numbers like those running in the city where every truck runs 22 hours a day every day then maybe people would have some repect for swift or any other new drivers that haven't had much time learning other than getting a CDL. Over 20 years driving NO tickets, NO accidents that were my fault, and 1 contamination. Don't lump veteran drivers into a category you know nothing about because there's plenty of drivers better than me. A good relaxed professional driver wins out everytime over a scared don't know what to do new driver.Double L, Working Class Patriot and JustSonny Thank this.

The key phrase here is "If they were smart"......
Bottom dwellers don't know better.......JustSonny Thanks this. -
I don't see this as serious to the average driver, but as a warning to Companies with crappy equipment and poor safety ratings, such as SuperService and that Company I worked for in 2005: DRD Motorsports.JustSonny Thanks this.

That's funny . The ones I see speeding and weaving when they can are USX , Schneider , Werner , Crete and CRE in 55 m.p.h. zones and construction zones . 80% of accidents with excessive speed as a factor happen at speeds of less than 65 m.p.h. and guess whose trucks are involved in most of them .

You wanna hear something funny?
I have a job now that pays me by the hour for EVERY hour worked and for the 1st time in many years, I actually do a COMPLETE PRETRIP AND POSTTRIP!
I wonder if every driver was paid by the hour, NOT BY THE LOAD OR BY THE MILE, how much SAFER would the roads be???
In addition, if I find a defect and write it up (it's happened twice on 2 different trucks so far) the defect was fixed BEFORE THAT TRUCK WAS DRIVEN AGAIN!
At last, I seem to have found a company that pays more than "lip service" to highway safety! They actually fix their trucks!
We run electronic logs, there is NO NEED TO CHEAT b/c we make more than enough money running legal so there is NO INCENTIVE to break the rules anymore!
CSA 2010???
Bring it on!
Maybe if the bottom feeders actually CARED about safety and actually PAID their drivers fairly, the highways would have been safer all along and this crud wouldnt have been shoved up our butts!
That is assuming that you believe the lies we are being told about how unsafe truckers are! Since we all know the stats I wont re-hash them here. But if you are being honest, in terms of miles driven and accicents causes, TRUCKERS ARE THE SAFEST DRIVERS ON THE ROAD!!!
I still maintain this CSA 2010 crud is merely an attempt to convince the sheep that the public has become that their politicians actually gives a rat's a55 about them and they are actually doing something for them! Meanwhile, 4 wheelers are responsible for killing over 37,000 people just last year alone! God forbid we infringe on their rights or try to keep people from getting hurt by the REAL dangerous drivers, 4 wheelers!
