punishes you more for current bad behaviors. As you change your behaviors and only get clean inspections they drop off. Older violations are looked at less severely and after 3 years you've won a clean slate. Well assuming all clean inspections from that point forward.

As far as I know they don't have any published hard numbers for intervention for drivers or carriers. If you go to the FMCSA website and search carrier scores you will find that somewhere around 70 or 80 they color them red and mark them for intervention.
IMHO, most drivers will lose their commercial driving priveleges based on 49 CFR 383.51 before they reach intervention on this system.
Check Table 2 of Part 383.51 Disqualification for Serious Traffic Violations. For two offenses, in a 3 year period, such as speeding > 15 MPH over, reckless driving, following too close, texting, improper lane change and 4 other violations you lose you CMV priviledges for 60 days. 10 points is the highest points for these violations. So 10 times 3 equals 30 times 2 violations equals 60.
And it would be possible to be 2 years after the first violation with points of 10 and get a second violation which would total 40 (10 + 30) but since it was 2 violations within 3 years you would still be suspended for 60 days. -
I'm so getting a headache.

I just figured out where intervention would come into play. The regulations in 383.51 cover most of the violations in Unsafe Driving, Driver Fitness and Controlled Substances. FMCSA covers Fatigued Driving, Vehicle Maintenance and Cargo-Related.
It starts to make sense if you think about it. We didn't used to have to worry about "vehicle violations" or "non-moving violations" damaging our CDL.Last edited: Aug 24, 2011

I can't cite any particular instance but I have heard of a couple of smaller companies having their authority suspended. It is my understanding that DOT will give them every chance to put a plan of action in place and work it before they revoke authority though.

If it helps anybody, here is a link to driver resources on the CSA.
The 7th one down is a powerpoint Driver Brief that's pretty informative.
