If I don’t have my own authority I really shouldn’t care about my CSA/SMS . Too many double negatives for me to understand exactly what you’re trying to say. I do have my own authority and a very good safety rating. Just so I got everything covered I’ll bite. What’s a SMS? I might need one of those Lol

Was just having this discussion on another thread about how much each state gives on portables. Some claimed it was "truck stop counter" talk. It's a fact though. Each state has their own number but almost every single state has some sort of leeway in the process of portables as well as added weight from snow and ice during the Winter on stationaries.

Lol. I can tell you VA doesn't pull out portables for 300 hundred dollar tickets that won't hold up in court.idk. I ran VA and MD for 22 years and that's not what they are after. Every single time they thought they had me on weight I was escorted to a scale only to be put out of service and handed a business card for a local welder. The portables are almost like a procedure for a prostate exam you are getting ready to get.

    DSK333 and Rideandrepair Thank this.

CSA/SMS is Carrier data. PSP is for Drivers. No, if you're PSP had a bunch of avoidable overweight tickets, equipment violations, out of service violations or other citations/warnings I would not hire you. Too much risk when insurance costs so much not to mention the rates would increase. Every time some lazy ignorant Driver gets an OOS for something they could have handled it drags down my CSA/SMS. The worse that number gets, the closer I get to having my authority revoked and/or insurance dropped. It also gets all the trucks pulled into for a closer look due to higher CSA/SMS data. It's a downhill spiral no Carrier should allow themselves to get into. I have a extremely difficult time believing anyone could be a CDL holder and not know about the PSP. It's been in place for a DECADE.

Do overweight tickets show up on the PSP? They don’t go against the carriers CSA score. And when looking at a PSP it would be pretty easy to see if the violations were a pattern of driver behavior or problems with the carriers equipment. If you can see where it was a carrier issue I’d probably give the driver the benefit of the doubt, but if it’s a pattern with them being lazy and getting tickets for dumb stuff I’m with you on not hiring them.

Enough bickering ! I went through this thread and cleaned up a bunch of argumentative posts. Those who would rather argue than post helpful information can use PMs...or just leave altogether.

They sure do. I had one on my PSP that I never even got. I was written a citation for not having a NYHUT sticker on the bumper. I told the cop I was exempt. He wrote anyway. I sent my BOL to the court and they dismissed it. I pulled my PSP expecting to see the NYHUT ticket but it wasn't there. Instead he put an overweight violation. I started the DATAQ process to remove it and he denied me even after I forwarded all the pertinent paperwork. I don't know what ever happened to that since I'm no longer associated with that particular record but I am curious. Each state has an FMCSA branch. If someone runs into this in the future contact that location and force them to remove it.

As far as seeing a pattern of behavior, yes, I agree. However, it's the Driver's responsibility to get the problem fixed. If he continues to operate equipment that a crappy Carrier won't fix then he needs to quit driving for them. Believe me, my first several years with a Class A I drove for some of the most despicable places ever. I quickly learned though that was not a good choice and started working for better outfits. The PSP will show me what choices the DRIVER is making, not the Carrier per se. Patterns are easy to spot. Also, sometimes accident information can be found on the PSP while it may not show on an MVR at all.

I'll have to look at my carrier and see what it says. I just recently got a overweight on csa. Forgot my drop axle when i rolled across the scale. No ticket. Just a inspection. And he didn't even do THAT. Just wrote me up.

Makes me glad I don’t have to worry about the PSP nonsense because I’ll never work for anyone who will check it. Not that I’m out here getting tickets, but stuff showing up that shouldn’t be there.
