I guess it will be interesting if he ever runs into a bad dot and his logs are not computer generated and the dot does not like the writing.
But then again, he will not have a problem because he is perfect.

This thread has nothing to do with whining. Its protesting the unfair penalty on what could be an honest mistake.
Now if a DOT man looks at the last 7 days and sees a pattern I wouldn't fault him for writing a ticket. A pattern would show carelessness. But a one time forget to cross a T or dot an I and you get the same ticket where your livelihood can be taken away is over the line.bullhaulerswife, kickin chicken, scottied67 and 1 other person Thank this. -

I really do not understand this "fail to dot an I or the T! I know you've heard me say it before DO IT THE SAME WAY EVERY TIME EVERY DAY! It doesn't say anything about I's and T's! If you take you freaking time to do the log neatly and correctly this is a moot point! You are beating a dead horse!
The form and manners does not mean stuff like that but writing CLEARLY. LEARN! Printing really isn't that hard! And mine sucks too but I'll give it a bit more attention starting in January! Heck, My old 1st grade teacher might roll over in her grave when I do!
Every logbook I've held in my hands in the past 32 years had lines and little writing on them telling you what, when and where on the form. Only an uneducated whatever who can't read will screw up the information needed on the log! They are the ones who will have trouble with that section of 2010. But I don't see any of you on this forum being in that position!
As I said TAKE YOUR TIME! What is 2-3 minutes to put the CORRECT information on a log? Geeze Louise people, my son at 12 (don't even go there people I know, in my own hand writing!) was filling out my logs for me with out a problem when he rode with me! HE could understand the line "shipping document number(s) OR name of carrier and commodity, knew there had to be a truck and trailer number and other information as it ASKED you for it! The log sheet is MADE for DUMMIES to fill out but those who do get written up for incomplete logs.... Must have figured the 2 minutes to write a BOL number and draw a line took way too much time out of his driving time and very busy life!
I'll say it one more time as it's been my rule for 20 years when I finally realized that a little proper paper work will keep MY money in MY wallet after to many tickets and fines! I just had to get out of the "super trucker" childish mentality and become a business man!
DO IT THE SAME WAY EVERY TIME EVERY DAY!
Once you get into the habbit of doing your paper work correctly WHEN you get back into the truck and not throw BOL's on the dash along with fuel receipts and the rest of the trash on the dash but put it in the folder where it belongs after filling out any form needed for the company, your problems will end! Murphy's law says that paper work will disappear when not put in it's proper place and this includes folded up in a pocket!
Good Luck

It will only be a moot point when we all go "paperless". Which is coming soon to a truck near you!
-
I'll tell you one thing I'm not doing. The section for the pretrip has a list that you're supposed to check off every day. That's around 15,000 little marks per year that I'd have to make. I'm not doing it. Ticket me, fire me, blow me.
-
You tick off the ones that are a violation! Then write it in the remarks section! That should knock down your "tick marks' to maybe 30-40 a year!Unless you drive a POS truck and trailer!
-
####, that means we're both in violation. -
No discrepancy on my part, it has to do with personal choice. But think about this, you may be accessed 5 points for each day the log is missing. So for a missing log it maybe 35 points instead of 7 for the HOS violation.
Soloflyr, I haven't written a ticket since I left Colorado in 1999. As a federal inspector I don't write tickets, if I discover violations severe enough to warrant enforcement I prepare a case and the driver/carrier is sent a Notice of Claim (NOC).
My work can be viewed on line at:

When you get to the links look at the Safety management or SMSEA and you will see the fruits of my labor for 2009. Not every carrier I've visited is there, but the carriers with management issues are present.
Why because I said I didn't write tickets? Not much of a case to begin with as you are short on facts regarding my duties and how I enforce the rules.
