If you are looking for a cabover the big cam engines are really great.
Big cam 1 2 and 3 are all good with three being the best. The big cam 4 I believe have the low flow Cooling and mechanical variable timing and somewhere within there they change to the step timing. I'm sure someone will correct me if that's incorrect.
The low-flow cooling was a problem and it was expensive to change them over from what I understand.
The mechanical n14 along with the big cam 3 were the best.
Big cam engines very simple reliable and inexpensive to repair. And also very easy to get more horsepower out of. Once you have one you'll look at everything else as junk. And you'll also like that the injectors only cost about $65 a piece versus what 3 or 4 hundred a piece for the electronic junk.
I'm a little partial to the big cam

LOL. I ran a lot of the old big cam engines, and while I had good luck with them for the most part, they never made me call a b model cat junk. lol They are much cheaper to work on by far and parts everywhere too.
