Tell him find a way to get them up here! The more I read about the CM2250 SCR's the more I think he's probably sitting on a gold mine.

    PS.....I'll pay Cash!!!

I had something similar after tuning was done on a 2250 and I found it was the governor type parameter (insite) was switched to variable 1, and it needed to be set to automotive. It would hic-up, and stumble on hard acceleration. I'm guessing they confirmed the correct throttle input type was used for the ecm and setting was setup right.

Ok Rawze a couple more questions and ill leave you alone till I post results since I will be doing this this weekend. How hard is it to replace or clean egr.Is there any coolant lines going to it?I looked and saw the I would guess the plastic electronic piece on top...any cleaning to that? Also when putting back together all intake and all the bolts should they be torqed and if so at what.one more question have you ever broken any bolts getting everything apart and should I use some liquid wrench night before to help not break any cause I'm sure that would suck if one broke.thanks

EGR valve on CM871 has no coolant lines. Just remove the cover that wraps around it (10-mm screws), and then the (trying to remember here) 4 bolts holding it. You will not snap any bolts if you use high-quality tools like snap-on or Kobalt (lowes brand). Make sure your on the bolt properly and squarely before turning them. Some are indeed tight. Just torque them back to what they were when you removed them. Personally, I use a tiny drop of lock-tite BLUE (not red) on each one when puttng them back on. The actuator is plastic, and can be removed with the 4 tall screws in the corners. This makes it easy to clean the valve itself, and inspect it for road spray intrusion. Make sure the plunger operates smooth and doesn't hang up after cleaning it. DO NOT GREASE IT.

    Hey Rawze,

Picked up my Prostar today that I PM'd you about last week. It is an ISX CM871 435hp w/13spd, all went well driving home, until about 300 miles into the trip I noticed my Engine Oil Temp was around 205 or so, and I thought it had been around 170 for most of the 300 miles, I only noticed it because the warning Triangle had come on.
BTW I was bobtail running 1350rpm @60-62... So I pulled into a truck stop and checked fluid levels etc... all was normal. Also, while pulling into the truck stop the warning light went out. So I left the truck sit bout 30 mins and started off again. The engine oil temp ran back up to 205 and and the warning light came back on again, so I pulled off at the next truck stop and the warning light went back out before I even parked up, after doing some research I found that I did not have to worry about shutdown until it reaches 250, so I started off again to go to a repair shop.
Well the light went off and never came back on. So I finished my trip home to where I hope I can fix the problem myself, if there really is one.

How to I get the engine code that the warning light came on for without a dealer of course? Is there a way to view it on the dash display?

What is the normal operating engine oil temp? I was not under any load at all, am I wrong in suspecting the oil cooler thermostat?

I just read a post about different fuel level in each tank setting off a code/warning, I did notice that while this was gong on my fuel level displayed had actually risen. From under 1/4 back up to 3/8.

Anyway thanks again for pointing me in the right direction for EGR knowledge last week and that great video series.

Hope I can get some help on this weird one.

    Rawze Thanks this.

Cummins oil thermostat opens at 235 your well under that temp, you need to be plugged in with insite and diagnose code or monitor what your sensors are reading. Get a temp gun, confirm oil temp in the pan vs the oil cooler.

Don't wanna come off rude, but lots of guys post issues and that dealerships and repair shops reep them of there hard earn dollars but to get to the bottom of a issue like this you need the equipment to diagnose and understand what its telling you. Cheap laptop, insite, and nexiq link be less than 1000$ and in the long run potentially save you thousands. Lots of you owner ops think these 871's are pains in the arse, wait till the 2250 engines get out there and all the fun common rail fuel problems add to the emission problems that everyones fighting.
