M11 can haul full weight. It has some nice power in the range of 1600-2000 rpm. It is slower, old style trucking.

but it is an incredible engine. It Runs a long time without complaining.

I’m currently hauling containers with this motor. Full weight daily.

I’d say it’s one of the best engines for trucking outside of heavy power needs like mountain terrain or oilfield etc. It has good fuel usage and not much for problems. The celect plus, to this day is working good. The engine seems like it will never stop.

A 10 speed is fine until 9th. Then It shifts to 1450 RPM which with weight spikes EGT and can barely accelerate. 10th... Forget it. An 18speed would be ideal for this engine. Although a 10 speed can work.

    I’m running 370hp currently.

Ah! An old post about an old engine!

Those M11’s are my all time favorite Cummins engines. They were so reliable, so simple. Basically p***es on the isx15 and newer Cummins.

I used to drive a 330 hp/1,250 tq in a sterling day cab. It had great off the line torque without touching the fuel pedal but the way the ecm is programmed leaves the engine pretty much gutless. Max rpms is 1,600 and with that Super 10 tranny with the 2 large spacing in 9th and 10th, pretty much makes the truck a turd.

I have suggested to my boss of swapping in a 18 speed to allow the engine to run more at 1,600 rpms.

The truck spent a lot of times near the 100,000 lbs gross or sometimes at 140,000 lbs hauling logs or concrete tile or blocks.

I got it up to 650,000 miles by the time my boss sold it due to the truck itself rotting away. (It was bad to begin with, I couldn’t save the cab, cancer was permanent.)

My father had a 280 hp model back in 1995 for long haul with van trailers grossing 80,000. That was a 9 speed. Seems to do fine. 1 million miles with no overhaul. Just a clutch, turbo and overhead adjustments.

I’d drive them again if another one shows up at our company. Not sure how that’s gonna feel again after a couple years driving a 575 hp/ 2,050 tq twin turbo C15.

    Trugo Thanks this.
