One more vote for CAT here, use to drive an old school big cam, 13sp inverted gears with 390s and it was a blast and a beast to drive but once you go CAT you never go back.

CAT all the way.
glider kit trucks with 6NZ Cat
My Kenny T600 with CAT C-15 single turbo 500HP. -
Depends on the colour of the Cummins. When Cummins was cream colour, (big cam 400), Yellow was king, 3406A 350. Cummins Black(410-460), Cat 425, Cat had some work to do. Red Cummins 475-530, I'd say Cat 440-515, won the race. In all I"d say Cat. Always been a die hard Cat fan.

Well, in the 6 years that I have been with this company, I have driven many trucks with c15s , single turbo, twin turbo, MBNs, Acerts as well as the newer C13s. I am now in a 386 with an Isx 15 450 hp and 1650 torque and I will never drive another Cat powered truck ever. Gone are the days of grabbing gears to crawl up the mole hills here in ND grossing 100,000 K plus. Gone are the days of averaging 4.0 mpg or less and having to stop for fuel mid day.
See my boss is not into aftermarket tuning, stock is all we get to deal with. Stock for stock the Cummins is were it is at when dealing with the newer then 2004 trucks and engines.
No more hearing "Here kitty kitty" as them cummins powered trucks catch me and pass me in the hills. -
RAT, I take it you are really starting to "feel at home" in the new ride? -
It is not bad. Still don't like white and still not big on the ride of the short hood petes but it is OK. I could have kept the old truck but I really wanted to try this ISX out. We have a few in the fleet and they are always passing me in the hills and they get better milage then the bidged POS I was running.
The other thing is that now that i am running a new truck they want it to make money to pay for itself, this means more and better loads for me. Also since it pulls more then 2 mpg better they are not afraid to send it out on the longer runs. -
Gotcha, I know it was a tough decision for you, glad it is working out. -
Considering Cat is no longer in the business, and we may soon see a C15 equipped with Cummins EPA technology and a Navistar label, I'd say Cummins won here.
Cat gambled and lost, kind of like Navistar did. -

The ISX was designed by Cummins to have the shortest possible deck height of the 15L class engines. The reason for this was to fit in the lowest possible hood for aerodynamics. The only problem with that is the rod ratio sucks and put tremendous amounts of thrust on the piston and wrist pin. If the wrist pin galls to the rod..........watch out, because the only thing that will be holding that block together will be the cylinder head. I've seen stock engines come apart like this and highly recommend that anybody thinking of modifying one to stay at mild Hp levels. Anything above 750 Hp is a bomb waiting to explode.
CAT all the way25(2)+2, HISPEED428, GrowinupMX and 1 other person Thank this.
