They have more nads then my detriots but the S60s have been way more reliable never had them open except for overheads

Cats are VERY sensitive to gearing, cruise rpm and throttle input as to mileage returned.
Detroits are not overly sensitive to gearing and throttle input, but show mileage variations light vs heavy.
this is direct observation of vehicles running both with me, and that i have driven.2fuzy Thanks this. -
The company I work for has over 70 units in the fleet and the Cummin powered units spend less time in the shop then the Cats, The Cummins powered tractors get 1mpg + better economy and the Cummins will pull hills with ease were the cats struggle. The boss just bought 10 new volvos with D13s in them and they pull as well as the cummins for the most part but get better fuel economy then anything else in the fleet.

I wouldnt trade a bag of Dog #### for a Detroit
I run Cummins ISX now N14 before the N14 gave me some trouble with head gaskets after 600k I had an Injector cup go bad on the Isx at 530k cummins stood behind it even tho I was past 5yr and 500k (on parts not labor ) injector cups are factory pressed so it took a new Head 3000.00 part
as for cat I have driven them when I was just a driver ( not the owner I liked em but they were costly to fix. and since Cat is not going to make highway engines no more you can go to the dealers and get one prety cheep ( nobody wants them anymore) in two yrs you will go to trade and it will be a Cat and that will be a deduction in value -
can ya feel the love for Detroit in this forum? i will stick with my reliable Detroit over another engine that costs more to fix cause they always break down
Etosha Thanks this. -
I drove all 3 back in the 90's and pulled on all 3 also. In order of ease of repair it was Detroit Cat then CUMMIONS when it came for room to work on them espically that blasted Celect fuel system on the N-14 when that screwed up you had big time issues. MPG Wise Detroit Cat Cummions again HP Biggest Cat was a 600 HP Detroit 565 Test motor Sweet little girl there. Cummions 720 HP rebuilt Big cam 4 However when it came to reliablity The detroits were there then the Cumaparts then Cat for me anyway. Could have been the company maintacne plans also. That 720 HP one held together when my mom had a heart attack and I burned a hole in 1 and 3 cracked 4 and swallowed a intake valeve on 5 from running her hot. Not to mention the turbo was SLAG. She got me home that day somehow then the boss had to rebuild her again after only 200K since her last one he understood why though.
