There's no cure for type 2 diabetes, but you may be able to manage the condition by eating well, exercising and maintaining a healthy weight. If diet and exercise aren't enough to manage your blood sugar well, you also may need diabetes medications or insulin therapy

I started my path to weight loss and much better health after my nephew lost 180 lbs in 18 months without really trying. I finally took his advise and watched this extremely informative video, a 90 minute lecture by Dr. Lustig:

    Sugar: The Bitter Truth

Dr. Lustig was featured in a New York Times article and I linked through to the video. The video is informative, funny, frightening, and can make you angry.

For more information google "dr. lustig sugar".

My own weight loss began when I got into trucking, I've lost 30 lbs and feeling much better now, almost to college weight. Additional research and modification to my diet was enhanced when my brother got cancer, and as part of the research in that area we both came across this:

    The Truth About Cancer

This is a documentary that covers a wide range of topics. Very interesting to note that sugar again plays a key role in a wide range of degenerative diseases. Cancer LOVE's sugar. You know how they find cancer if it has spread through your body? They inject irradiated glucose into you and then light you up on an x-ray to see where the cancer is gobbling up the glucose.

My brother beat the cancer using chemo and surgery, but has modified his diet as well.

Gut bacteria, or microbiome, is another hot area of research. Everyone has bacteria in the gut. What you eat will change what bacteria is in you. We need the "good bacteria" in order to digest our food. "Probiotics" can be an important way to enhance the good bacteria to create a healthier microbiome. I regularly eat PLAIN yogurt for the probiotics and unsweetened chocolate (which helps enhance probiotic health and for the antioxidants).

Eating a lot of sugar in your diet will cause your microbiome to start kicking out some really toxic byproducts and alter the pH of your body to become more acidic, both conditions can be a precursor to cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.

While genetic makeup can predispose you to getting diabetes or other degenerative illnesses, your diet really is the key to whether those diseases will be triggered or not. New research also indicates that YOUR genes can be altered by what you eat and you can pass on those new traits to your children.

My grandmother was recently diagnosed with diabetes she is just over the line. She was told that if she stops eating all the sugary foods and drinks she will be able to reverse her diabetes within 3 months since it wasn't that bad yet. But if it gets too bad you might not be able to reverse it.
