The problem is this company tries to fix trucks on a limited budget like McGuyver (sp) would, and wonder why they have to go and do the same work over and over again when fixing it right the first time would have cost less.
Curiosity question......

That sounds like the construction company that wanted me to drive a dump truck with a broken front spring one day.
Kiss my ###. -
I run a route with more miles than the distance to 4 other terminals and back. -

When one leaf breaks, the others then become subject to supporting extra weight. This has a way of precipitating a domino effect of sorts.
I didn't want to be out on the road with 20 ton of stone in the back when that happened. -
I agree 100%. I was just saying I was surprised how well this particular truck held up. It was never driven on roads. I wasn't suggesting you would have been ok to drive your truck on the highway- I wouldn't. Our truck was off-road only didn't even have a valid registration or working lights

Recently, I was driving through heavy snow in Ohio and pulled into a pfj for a snack/bathroom break/safety check(needed to make sure lights weren't covered in snow). In the 60 minutes after that stop, there were 7 collisions including 2 cmv's on their sides due to the conditions. I called my dispatcher and said that as soon as I reached a safe spot to shut down, I was stopping because I didn't want to be #8.... he didn't like me very much and tried to get me to continue. I told him that if he was coming to continue the run, I would gladly give him the keys; otherwise shut the #%_"#$#$ up.

Shredded hose does not cause overheating, the leaking antifreeze would have shut the truck down to prevent the damage. It sounds like the radiator needs to be replaced, the thermostat sounds like it is working if you can drive a bit.
That said, I would not have driven it, I would have called them and told them it is overheating and tow it in. The mechanic should have replaced the radiator right away without hesitation. But it begs the question - why do you drive for these idiots when they are taking care of the trucks on a limited budget?
What happens if they go cheap on the brakes and they fail? You get into an accident and they pin it on you? -
You don't think I am worried about that? Let me relive in broad strokes my life since 2013.....
That was my last year as a resident manager, I ran 4 properties that year and none of them for more than 3 months before I became collateral damage and was let go. Since housing was part of compensation, that went too so I was not only unemployed, but homeless as well. This lasted between Xmas 2013 and August 2015. During that time, I decided that I needed to do something different and was able to creatively finance driving school (workforce investment act, personal funds, help from friends).
I ended up with a major carrier who terminated me for too many preventable collisions, with the last incident being in October last year. Because of that, I found this company was the only one willing to take me in so I can put some time/distance after the last incident. Most of the companies I spoke with were willing to reevaluate me once I put 6-12 safe months in. The good news is that May is 6 months with this company and 8 since the last incident. So you can see, I was put between a rock and a hard place and needed to make a quick decision.
Although they don't know it, I already have 1 foot out the door ( for a laundry list of reasons ), but because they aren't paying into unemployment, I wouldn't get it if they fired me(which I don't want); likewise if I quit without a place to go, I wouldn't be eligible because I quit.
I am trying to make this experience as short as possible, but cannot make a change just yet.
If anyone knows a country songwrier who can make a hit song of my life since 2013, I want a royalty!Last edited: Mar 12, 2016

I am not sure what to make of this second truck with a serious problem....
It seems to be lopsided like a mother who has a child that favors one breast..... I literally ran out of fuel in the middle of nowhere, or so thought the truck... I look in the right side tank, full to the top of the tube.... the left side is drier than Utah on Sundays.... I fill it, and about 300 miles later, it needs more while the right side remains not only full, but seems to have added more fuel without my intervention. This is annoying, but manageable so I am getting it looked at in the morning.....
I am debating if I should call OSHA or DOT to file an anonymous maintenance complaint and see if they come out with inspectors wanting to put hands and eyes on all company owned equipment and put things out of service if need be... thoughts?
