I believe truck driving can be either a career or a job.. it depends on what you want it to be... There are drivers who have made it a successful career and there are those who just treat it as a job...
It will be up to you whether you make a career out of it.. which will take determination, planning and dedication.. it won't happen over night.. but, has been and can be done... Or, you can just make it a job and hope for the best..
It isn't just about getting your foot in the door and hoping you are one of the Lucky ones and ends up with a career..
those truckers who have succeeded in making it a career were not lucky.. they made it happen.. again, not over night..
Curious: Career change?

How much do you make at the shipping/receiving job? If over $40k a year I would stay there. When I stop driving I want to settle down to a warehouse or dispatch job.

40K is right about where I am now. And have been stuck at, and will probably never go beyond here!
Oh, another question. One of my LTL guys I see often tells me he is raking in the overtime. He tells me he spends the mornings on the dock, and then goes out in the truck later in the day. The question is, as far as duty hours. Does those count only beehind the wheel? Or is it "on duty" as a whole. How do they get overtime hours like that? -
