Yes everyone from out of state at C-1 school in Indy had to take and pass general license before they could do the cdl permit test.

Well I've decided to go with Swift. Had to decide by today as both would have need to know by today. What set me off, is swift knew I was bipolar and said it's fine as long as the doctor, and the Urgent Care(their approved clinic in my area that does DOT physicals) said it was ok and I passed DOT physical. They said it wasn't the Bi-polar that was the issue but could be the meds. But both docs gave me the green light. (other then CRE and Swift) all other trucking companies turned me down. Probably due to bipolar, or that I've been on disability for 7 years. THus lack of work experience. Catch 22. I can't get a job due to lack of experience, can't get experience without a job. Pam turned me down (no reason given), Prime turned me down (I was hoping for this one as my number one chocie) no reason given.
So it came to swift or CRE. CRE recruiter said the job history wasn't an issue, then heard due to disability and said that I need to talk to their doctor. Called and they said Doc would call me back withing 24 hours. Recruiter said Call me at noon if they don't call you. I did. He said he'd call them now and see if they can push them (right before I called him back I tried them again but got the answer of up to 48 hours). I don't have time to wait. So I am not going to turn down Swift, being the only one approving me for the "chance" CRE might hire me. To top it off, the recruiter calls ME, (Now I've called him maybe 15 times in 2 days). He calls me and asks to speak with me. I say this is Josh. He says Hi, this is Jeff. I said Hi. He said "I am following up about your application..." He didn't even recognize me as the one he's been talking to.
At that point I said Nope. Not gonna wait for a CHANCE, when I have a guaranteed in, with a recruiter that can't even remember that we spoke 3 times in the last 2 hours... Don't they keep notes?
Anyways, I start 3/26 Memphis for Swift. -
Fist sorry for typos in previous message. Just woke up. Not even wake enough to use spell checker apparently.
2nd, why don't they give a reason? I mean if they aren't going to hire you fine. But come on... Tell me why. Give me a reason to improve myself. -
In my opinion you made the correct decision. Alot of these training companies are lucky to keep drivers one year, but CRE will give you free training for just a six month commitment tells me something is very wrong there.

Well, wasn't much of a decision lol. Decision was be a trucker or not basically. And if so, go with whoever would take me, put my time in. I am taking it like the military, or any other job. You gotta put your time in, take crap at the start, and try to work your way up and out.

I understand. CRE didn't turn me down. They wanted me to talk to their doctors, but just didn't fit into the time frame. I needed to let my CRE recruiter or Swift recruiter know by today. So it's not that they turned me down, it's all of the other schools turned me down. And I understand if they turned me down due to lack of work history then tell me so. Or if I am just not a right fit, then tell me. But to just say no, and when I ask why to tell me there is no reason given, just kinda harsh. How can I improve myself, or resume' if I don't know what is wrong.
But I do understand from a companies perspective they are putting out the money hoping the employee will turn out to be a good one. But in the same sense, Swift owns their own school as does CRE. Every other job I've worked at, I've been trained and PAID to do so. As an example, I worked (YEARS AGO before disability) for John Middleton the cigar company. And they hired me to be a forklift driver. They paid for my forklift training, and paid me $16/hour while learning how to drive forklift. So it's a little backwards in the trucking industry (from an outsiders perspective). I mean, if they were sending me to community college and paying the community college $5k then sure. But technically they are training me themselves, in all the other companies I've worked for, I got paid to be trained. Now, I am not going to complain MUCH because I will work it off, and hopefully end up on top. But this is the first "job/industry" that I've come across where you pay them to train you to work for them. -
Many companies in other industries still offer paid training because they only have to train a small percentage of total employees and the pay , working conditions , and benefits keep the trainees with them years after training is complete .
Whole different story in the trucking industry . https://www.questionmark.com/us/casestudies/Pages/crengland.aspx -
Yeah, I guess I can see due to the turnover rate, if they paid to train that many people then lost them they could go out of business. I guess in that sense it does make sense to charge them, and makes sense that that is why they give them their money back when they stay. Maybe a better solution would be pay them double to stay.
For easy figuring using easy numbers:
College is $1200
Pay them back $100 a month for 2 years.
This way first year they charge a 100 and take a 100. So break even each month on tuition. So after a year the training was "free". Second year you earn $1200. This way they would have a higher retention rate longer, and the training would be paid.
Kills 2 birds with one stone. Now they have even longer lasting employees, and they are paid back, and the employee feels they got paid for training. They could even throw in a safety loophole in there.
