I've been out of work since 12/10. Got laid off from an hourly driving job, with plenty of OT, when things got real slow. With the holidays coming, nobody was even considering hiring. Then my younger brother passed away from cancer, just 3 days before Christmas and we had to go down to Florida the weekend after. I'd been job hunting since then, with very little results. I have experience, but quit TMC in May and spent the summer working part time for a causual driver company that put butts in seats for a bunch of local companies. I did this to take some time and remodel our home after we sold my late mother in laws house. Took the hourly job in July, laid off in December and am back with the casual driver company. So, that's TMC, Pro Drivers, Carolina Handling and Pro Drivers again, for 2008.
Not a solid track record for someone that only had 3 driving jobs in the previous 5 years. Anyway, I got accepted by USX and will be going to orientation on Monday. I've read a lot of bad things about them on these boards and some good things too. I'm really up against the wall now and have to get to work NOW. I hope this doesn't turn around and bite me in the butt, as I've already resigned myself to the fact that whatever company I go with now, I will be with through next spring, come rain, mud, ####, or blood.

It's rough out there. Last time I was job hunting a couple years ago, I had 18 offers by the end of the first day. And that was with three years experience and three tickets in those three years.
Now, I have five years experience and only one ticket in the last three years. In five weeks, I've had three offers and none are companies I relish working for.ScooterDawg Thanks this. -

The thing here to remember is that everyone has either a good or bad experience at every trucking company in the US. It has been going on for years, griping on the CB before there was an internet, and, now, we have the internet. More info faster.
I applaud the DAC report offering here, but I also bear in mind that there are those who just can't get along at any company, I was married to one of those, and we switched jobs like underwear for 5 years. I liked the companies, but he always found fault.
What I am trying to say is that you need to experience things first hand, no one will ever have your experience.
I was told that even if I didn't lift the weights all the way on the "Work Well" deal, that Swift would hire me. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA?>>>>>>>
I was 5 lbs short of 85, found out that I actually did the 85, the PT doing the test heard me say to myself, "I cannot do this"" and told me to go home. I went ahead and did it, biut he told me that I couldn't handle the rest of the test. Heck, all that was left was the carrying part...I just got back.
I could say the guy was an ###, I think he was,k because I should be able to talk to myself if I want, I could say Swift was a lousy company ( which a lot of drivers there as much as said that I should be grateful I was leaving, but they had their expectations, I mine, and they just didn't mix. bye bye Swift.
So I say, go to Orientation, do what you want, and keep on trucking. I would be interested to hear from you on your opinion.
Also, as for the hiring freeze, I was just told by a subsidiary company to apply there, that they are hiring.
I wanted more info on what they require for driving record and all before I waste my time with a recruiter.
Also, I am probably going to Western, no one seems to like them either.
C'est la vie, I may say the same in a week, but may not. WE shall see. But I really hope the DAC stuff on them isn't true.
Hope I helped. -
I will be attending there orientation in Ohio on Monday Feb 2. Has anyone been to that terminal and how is it there? Everything sounds good so far for me. I was offered a Dedicated run out of Berwick PA.

I start Monday the 20th with orientation, and then back to FL for a dedicated route with Family Dollar. Wish me luck!
