Yeah, don't be like ecubed...Mr Bigshot over there got his truck, and now feels that he is above posting on here.....lol

I posted about them last time I worked there. I have noticed a lot of drivers get on with an outfit and post great stuff and then all the sudden they talk crap non stop about them.
I left Melton in 2010 and still have yet to post a bad thing. I like em and hope that things are still good. -
I've been here going on 4 months now and I like it. This is a place where you actually get treated like a person and not a number or thing but they do work you like your a robot. Right now I am on the 2nd 34 hour restart I've had out here on the road except when I go home but the rest of the time I'm running hard and doing it on recycled hours. But yes communication is key here. I banked in a little better than $1,100 after taxes last week so that ought to go to show something. I'm thinking about looking into a lease because my truck is currently getting 7.4mpg average which is far above the company threshold which means I'll be seeing a healthy looking fuel bonus before to long.

I am definitely going to keep up with this thread. My husband is looking into starting with Melton in April. He can't leave right now because they need to verify employment at his current company before leaving (they are the type to put stuff on a DAC report because you quit) and he needs to be home the next 2 weekends due to getting our marriage blessed and becoming Catholic this Easter.
Both are big deals to us so...we wait. Let's not forget the UGA G-day game 4/14th, just 2 days before his scheduled orientation, lol.
BTW, is Melton good about getting you home if you absolutely need it? We are moving at the end of May and he'll need to be home late the 24th and can leave the 27th. If he gives them plenty of notice, and stays out 3 weeks, will that work for Melton?
Also, do they live and die by DAC reports or will they ask a potential driver what happened? We're worried that WEL, current company, will put something on their when he leaves. -
I'll tell you this...as long as you give them ample time and keep reminding them as the date approaches, especially if it is urgent to get home, they don't usually have a problem. I've had 2 jury duty dates that they had me routed for home for, and I would have been home in time both times, but I told them to keep me out at the last minute. They may not be able to give you exact dates though, he might get home a day or 2 earlier than requested.
About the DAC, when I was in orientation, they asked me about everything...all my incidents, accidents, yadda yadda. I had nothing but unpreventables and not at fault stuff, but I think they will listen to his side of anything that may be a deal breaker, and take that into account before making a decision. From what I've seen since I've worked here is they know stuff happens, and is willing to give us the benefit of the doubt. -
Also currently at Melton. This is my second time around with them also. I left them originally to be home as the kids grew up. Now that they are leaving the nest I decided to come back out to try to make some money and pay off some bills. They really haven't changed much except that I got stuck with an a/t truck. We aren't buying any more of these because of the problems they cause especially with spread axle trailers. All of the new trucks have 10 speeds in them. Wish they'd get back to the 13 speeds. But as Iraqvettx stated, communication is the key. And as someone else stated they do check DAC and backgrounds carefully. They will then ask YOU to tell them about yourself and if they find that you are lying to them or hiding things you WILL be sent home. Just be up front and honest. There were five of us on Monday morning for orientation and by lunch it was just me. Everyone else had been sent home.

A friend of mine would like to get on at Melton but he is afraid of one little thing in his past that happened 8 years ago. He has a misdemeanor possession charge from 2004. He dont smoke anymore and I guess you could say he is straight as string now. Will that possession charge keep him from getting hired?
Also, he noticed that they wanted 2-6 months of recent OTR or 1 year of driving a 3 axle truck outside of a 150 air mile radius. He drove a day cab with a 53ft. dry van and also a 27ft. box truck but mainly drove the day cab. He drove that for a year in 2010 then got fired over some BS and was out of work for 5 months then started driving a concrete truck for a month until a guy offered him a job driving a dump truck for $25 an hour on an EPA job, well, the job ended in October of 2011 and he's been on unemployment since then because the job market around here is pathetic and he is tired of the seasonal driving and wants to go back OTR. Do you think he would qualify?? What would his chances be?? -
How has it been going Melton drivers? Where have you been, what have you been doing? What is Meltons time out policy? 2-3 weeks?

That kind of makes me nervous about going tto orientation even though I don't have anything to hide!! I just can't afford to be sent home without a job when I already have one!!
