Yeah that's what I've been trying to do...get ahold of someone but no luck so far. I know it'd be stupid to run that (I do mountains a bit), but it's also nice to get backup here on TTR. The company I run for doesn't always take care of stuff like that right away. Thankfully this is my last week with them.
Cut Steer Tire...No Good?

I guess push come to shove and I wasn't more than a few hundred miles from my destination for Monday morning and when the boss becomes available, I'd run it but not above 60 mph
T.Rucker Thanks this. -
I wouldn't trust that tire on the steer.

Unless you want to risk this...
I wouldn't run with it. That's exactly what happened here. Truck ahead blew a steer tire and rolled over.
And YES, it CAN blow suddenly like that. I've seen fairly new tires blow out for no apparent reason other than a simple manufacturing flaw.Last edited: Sep 10, 2017

Thanks for all the good feedback guys. Finally got ahold of someone and I just have to bobtail 15 miles and I'll get it swapped out for another new one in the morning . My mind can rest easy now lol. Appreciate all the help!!

I don't care what the load pays, or the day pays. That tire is an accident waiting to happen. Just imagine if DOT sees that and you told them you tried to get ahold of your boss but no answer. Stay in the yard with the truck until he shows. Let him make the decision. If he says run it, hand him the keys. Stay safe my friend.

I just had one that had a much smaller cut than that one. Fortunately cord was showing and it was down to 6/32. I got my carrier to front me the money for 10 XDNs. Had it been DOT questionable, they might not have done it.
Grubby Thanks this. -
I watched a video on Youtube the other day about a fella down in Effingham needing a super single-
It was as trailer that blew to shreds-
Anyway...I'm watching this video the poor driver has to DEBATE-Again DEBATE with his company over a tire over the phone at the petro. Yes it was a large carrier (I think it was Super Service)
What year is this? This kinda stuff happened in the 80's- conflicts over tire pricing with drivers.
Finally after getting approval- The company wants the carcass.
Point is- With everything these people want (ELD's-Driver facing camera's-Crash avoidance cr@p- new trucks with "Hot" exhaust mumbajumba-etc)...Why are they still acting like its 1988 on a blown tire?
Stuff like that really makes me mad.Call_Me_The_Breeze and T.Rucker Thank this. -
Run it until it blows and then put another 50 miles on the rim.
The boss will break his neck to answer the phone the next time your number pops up on the caller ID.Last edited: Sep 11, 2017
