Cutting off

Discussion in 'Experienced Truckers' Advice' started by truckthatpassesyouby, Oct 11, 2016.

How long do you wait to cut off?

  1. I cut at ¼ truck-lenght

  2. I cut at ⅓ truck-lenght

  3. I cut at ½ truck-lenght

  4. I cut at 1 truck-lenght

  5. I don't really care how close I cut.

I pretty much agree with everything you posted. Still, if those idiots do an abrupt lane change because they're po'd at being behind me, than what's better? My coming in early and pulling away from you, or them possibly over steering and losing it and you plowing into the back or side of them?

I do the same thing. The thing that annoys is me is when driving at night (which I mostly do) is when the truck I'm passing flashes their high beams while I'm looking in my mirror and blind me.

For me, my comfort level is largely based on the speed difference.

If I am going slow up a hill and another truck is passing me 20 mph faster, I sometimes flash as soon as their rear bumper clears my front bumper lol

By the time they can start their lane change, they will be far past me, and I stay alert and ready to brake in case they do something stupid.

If the speed difference is less, I will wait longer before flashing, and if I can without messing myself up, sometimes I will let off a little to let a slightly faster truck past and clear the left lane faster.

If I am the one passing, then I am more conservative and get at least as far past as I would feel comfortable having a truck follow me, or until they flash.
