I stay home, this is the reason. This happened many years ago. I was headed to Calif. I always stopped in Boomtown looked everything over and adjusted my brakes. I head up the hill, come to the scale, get pulled into the bay. After the inspection, he says everything ok except brakes on axle 4 left side out of adjustment. I ask the inspector if I can adjust it, he says sure. I crawl under and don't do a darn thing. Inspector crawls under, checks my work and says all is good.
In 30 years I have had many Inspections, out of all those inspections, there have been 4 completely bogus write ups. The vast majority of inspectors are honest doing a good job. I just had one 2 weeks ago in Tn. he was a great guy. But a hand full of them are not honest.900,000-tons-of-steel, flash1994 and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
I dont know who started this rumor that clean truck is smooth sailing thru inspections, but its absolutely wrong. Just take a look at trucks being inspected you'll see there are inspecting shiny trucks too.
In any case this is a good time of the year to have a roadside repair business!NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
True, anyone can get pulled in.But ones with dirty riggetity equipment and companies with a bad safety score are sitting ducks for the DOT.They do pick out certain trks as they're rolling thru the scale. But the nice trk and trls that get inspected doesn't take long compared to the older equipment you see.

In TN those guys are hard.Had one pull me over in a rest area to inspect me.Was there over an hr.He tried and tried finding something wrong but didn't and complimented me on my logs and all my paper work.

smooth sailing it's not but to say it's not an advantage wouldn't be true either, other times of the year more so, during the blitz they're more about the quota that they have to meet or exceed.NavigatorWife and pattyj Thank this.

Not a rumor my friend. One of my former rookies, who now works MVE, NCSHP, will tell you and anyone else, and I quote "If I see a truck coming in and the dash looks like a trash can was dumped on it, it's a Red Flag." "Reason being, if the dash is that filthy and unorganized, and the driver does not have enough self discipline to clean it, what else is wrong?"Lepton1, pattyj, NavigatorWife and 2 others Thank this.

I just did 2 loads. City and County Police was everywhere today. State troopers we hiding as usual. This year every one is out here cracking down early. Just a heads up in Georgia.

Went by 5 scales today. Prepassed by every one

I can honestly tell you that's not always true. When they weigh that truck. They already know by the prepass transponder in the truck of who is driving it. You are assigned a truck and that prepass transponder. They can pull your name, and check your scores, and the company's score, and go from there. My redneck anti- theft system works really good. My truck is always inspected thoroughly by me, and so far no issues. Knock on wood, and scratch on vinyl if you don't have any wood.NavigatorWife Thanks this.
