If i was running @80 000lbs max with a post '10 engine i would never buy a big block.
I know a few O/O that run light with big blocks and they allways have emission issues combined with lower MPG.(the extra injector is working too much to get heat in the DPF)Last edited: Mar 10, 2017
KB3MMX and dustinbrock Thank this. -
Yeah I'd say anything 08+ with DPF, needs steady heat to be happy
-
I know the d16 had some issues but loved mine in my 07 780 ..gave my very few problems ..pulled like a mule too...RIP
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
In Europe Volvo is using the D13K and D16K.
The only reason i can think off for Volvo not selling the D16K in the USA is limited sales combined with not being able to pass EPA14 with that engine as is. -
I am surprised nobody has mentioned yet the horror stories. This engine forced my buddy out of business, he went back to be a company driver, cause he could not keep up with the repairs.
-
That's because there are none. The only complaint was turbos, injectors and cups. You read the turbo horror stories if you Google "volvo d16" but what I always point out is they stopped in 2009 when Holset (not Volvo) fixed Thier error.
Cups and injectors have been and still are a issue on every model volvo engine.
Anything else can usually be shown to be bad maintenance.Mich_mane Thanks this. -
His was 2007...
-
Thank goodness they finally went to common rail! I'm interested in seeing how the new compound turbo works out.
-
I was shocked to read that as well. Pretty much every diesel engine I've seen in the last 6 years has been common rail.ReeferOhio Thanks this.
