Like I have said Drivers are so clueless about emotions, then you don't have to Attend Harvard to be truck Driver actually you don't have to be able to read, write, or even speak..

This thread is the reason I will never be a company driver again. I will always have the decision to go home from any point in the country empty. Have had a few times in my career when I was a company driver where stuff like that happened. Once it was for my Grandfather's passing and Sunflower Carriers made no attempt to get me home for 24 hours and they only gave me a load home from SLC,Ut after I dropped the trailer at terminal and filled the truck up and then told them I am headed home to Indiana in one hour with or without a load. They told me we will turn your fuel card off and I said go ahead I just filled up and can make it most of the way. They then found a load right then that had been sitting there the whole time. The other time was with Swift and they knew for 2 months I had a cruise booked and then kept saying there was no loads going that way from Denver when several trucks sitting there in terminal were getting loads going real close. That time I emptied the truck out there at the terminal and rented a car and drove home.

Truck drivers, regardless of what people say, do work very hard for their money.
For many people, it is their only source of income to feed and take care of themselves and their families. Unfortunately, the truck driving profession is NOT very family oriented or family friendly, even with the companies that try to make it so. The nature of the job requires the driver to be away from home for extended periods of time.
My mother passed away back in 2007. My father had passed away in 1981, 26 years earlier. I never married and never had any children. When I called up various trucking companies, in reference to the possibility of becoming a truck driver, and gave them this information, their responses were often this: "We can keep you out on the road for longer periods of time". It took me awhile to realize that companies are frequently getting requests from their married drivers for more home time to be with their families, especially if their children have not grown up to become full fledged adults.
The nature of the job does require that the driver be out for extended periods of time if he or she wants to both get the miles and get loads.
Out of RESPECT for both the truck drivers and the companies that they work for, it might not be a bad idea for FUTURE generations of married people, especially those with children, to gravitate towards jobs that let them be home every night with their families. Also, it would not be a bad idea for the trucking companies to hire more people who already have grown children on their own, husband and wife teams with either grown children or no children, single people who do NOT have any children to support and raise, and people who are NOT caring for aging parents or grandparents.
If one thinks about it from a SAFETY point of view, the individual truck driver must have all their mental focus on both their driving and getting their loads to their destinations on time. Many truck drivers themselves, along with other trucking company personnel, have repeated told me this.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!Rick_C Thanks this. -
Agree Bigkid Parents don't die everyday these are not Aunts or distance Cousin Trucking Companies need to show compassion to Driver that has lost Love one..

Yes Monkey why not have you ever see some of these Drivers with no Mannerisms or Brains its even in the Corporate world, just more of them in the Trucking world..

That is awesome to have Dispatcher like that at K.B. Transportation was so turned off by the Terminal Manager someone who couldn't manage himself. Shouting at dispatchers in front of everyone if there is misunderstanding what are conference rooms for, he was so childish. And then assigning me to a Dispatcher with only 2 months Trucking business trying ask me out what a Professional trucking company, I'am glad left after 3 day orientation.
