You're going to have to pay for your schooling.I understand your concern but unfortunatly you'll find poor and dangerous training with every company.I don't think it's too late, talk to your company about going back and give it a second try.if you get another bad trainer then request another one.

We talking training or schooling? Schooling has long been a money making situation for the training companies. Recently, some the crappy companies have been trying to extort money out of newbies that leave their crappy company after being hired. That is what this case sounds like.

How much time went by between when you sent the video to safety and when you quit?
Did they have time to respond to the video?
Did they act on the video?
Did you tell them why you were quitting?

They will never bring a court action against you if you have that video.

I wouldn't pay them anything. If they mess up your credit, you call the collection agency/credit monitoring company and you dispute it. It won't go away but it will show up as a dispute which ain't so bad.

Years ago I had a contract with a lawn maintenance company to mow my lawn. They kept applying fertilizer to make it grow more which means they had to cut it more. They charged me for the extra visits and the fertilizer. I refused to pay for the extras. They put it on my credit. I dispute it and nothing ever came of it.

IMO your employer violated the terms of the contract first.

OP went thru a company to get his/her CDL

How is it extortion if you leave on your own terms before you finish the terms of the contract you signed. Now if you're fired before that time and they act on that contract then I can see you're point.

I went thru swift and got my CDL they never extorted me and they are a crappy company to some

Interesting.... I interpreted it as he went there they helped him get his CDL, then had some on the job training. But the bill is for CDL training.

Either way a contract is a contract.

I would work with the department that could make the bill go away completely. Start out with a serious conversation with the safety department and human resources regarding assigning you an unsafe trainer and see where that conversation goes.

The safety department would not want to go to court with your video. A judge could assign part of the blame of your quitting on the company and relieving you of that portion of the bill.

The collection people have NO leeway in adjusting this claim and if they do it would be more of a write off and still go on your credit.

I wish you the best in resolving this issue.

Reads to me that he was past schooling and in company training, teaming with his trainer. "He would pay him X amount for training." Reads like he would owe them for company training apart from schooling. I don't know, that is how I read it.

You should have been given the opportunity to have another trainer. But I would be willing to bet that a decent attorney could win that case for you. Since you are new to the business it would make sense to question the company's worthiness. Drivers like that should never be allowed to drive much less train ever again. That is exactly what we don't need out here.
