Yes in my many years ive unfortunately seen many truck wrecks. Ive also seen several car versus truck head on collisions. Ive yet to see one of those where the truck got the worst of it. Ive also never seen one where the trucker was significantly hurt. That hood may be fiberglass but that engine and frame rails are not. Like I said, the truck could have withstood a direct hit from the car better than the suv. In all likely hood the drunk would have swerved at the last second and he would have been the one in the median.

I am now using this one. It's more expensive but it has dual lenses and takes true HD video, sharp enough for me to catch street signs and license plates.

Im looking at a slightly more compact and higher cost unit than yours. It runs about $80-100 depending where you order from. Cant seem to find a brand name but then again the vast majority of them I looked at were that way lol. They all also seem to come from China. I guess we dont build that either, this country has lets itself go to waste man. Thats all I got to say about that,to quote Forrest Gump.
Oh and the dash cam also has gps with emergency lock, both features aplus. -
Dan,
I've done A LOT of research on cams, trying to find the best of the best. Definitely not an easy task lol. All my research mentioned a certain brand several times, VicoVation. They are apparently made in South Korea, instead of China, and their cameras are more expensive but very well built, they are the same quality as other electronics made there (i.e. Samsung).
Here is their home page:
http://www.vicovation.com/
The catch is that the cameras are hard to find in the US so far. There is a dealer selling them out in California, and I was originally hesitant to order from their site since I've never heard of them, but they apparently just launched themselves on Amazon, so if mine ever goes out I may consider ordering this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Vehicle-Video...=UTF8&qid=1362265608&sr=8-1&keywords=vico-ds2
The DS2 is the older model, but $189 isn't bad. The newest model, the Vico-TF2, is top of the line but can only be ordered directly from South Korea, which pretty much limits you to ordering from eBay, or I have found a single site that sells them that seems to be reputable, although shipping times seem to vary widely:

For basic functionality, the cheap model on Amazon that I posted earlier isn't bad. And FYI, the cheap models on Amazon are pretty much the same as the $100 ones you see in Petro and TA, except that the truck stop ones have a US brand name stamped on them, but they are the same models at 5x the price.
By the way, for those of you buying or considering dash cams - In some states, it is illegal to record video of a state trooper or police officer on a traffic stop. If you have a cam, make sure that if you're pulled over or inspected, you tell the officer that you have a camera and it is running, and make sure it's ok. If he asks you to turn it off, do it - don't argue. -
I think one of those states already had their law overturned in the courts and others are in the court system. Time and time again higher courts have ruled this unconstitutional.

That's good to know Dan, thank you. I always wondered why they were so paranoid... Unless they plan on beating the crap out of me, being videotaped shouldn't be an issue
