I wonder if having a nice sticker made to put on both sides of the truck that state "continuous audio and video recording in progress. Approaching truck and speaking to the driver constitutes permission to be recorded" would work? I think in most states, all you have to do is let the other person know you are recording them, to give them the option to opt out. Seems many of the laws about stuff like that only require notifications. And even the FMCSA says we have no right to expectation of privacy in and around our trucks as we are a highly monitored industry. I'd think that no expectation of privacy thing would extend to anyone approaching our truck as well.

Where you run into problems with the law comes not from the video part but the audio part. No one can record your voice without your knowledge. I someone approaches your vehicle telling them you are recording them is all you have to do.
I run all Garmin products in my Truck. The Garmin 20 has some wonderful pictures of deer near misses. I had a Car hauler that backed into me and knocked a big hole in my oil pan. The aswhole drove off. But I had his license number as well as his picture looking back at me to see what he hit before he took off. That alone paid for the camera.
Any valuable data I put directly on my computer. Any Swift mistakes go straight to Youtube.nonsense007, All-American82, Hardlyevr and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've been seriously thinking about getting a dash cam, for all the reasons we need one. You are right the sticker probably wouldn't help. I was just hoping maybe it'd cover your rear if you forgot to mention that you are recording. Just the thought of some situations where tempers are high at the time they walked up. You might forget.

Well, we include a vinyl sticker that declares it with every camera. We do recommend that they inform law enforcement verbally also if they have the audio function enabled also. It certainly can not hurt to CYA in this regard although many states don't require it. Some do.MrEd Thanks this.
