Ah.... well say no more! Dump trucks take a bigger beating that any truck I have ever driven! God only knows what had been wrenched on recently! I almost bought one before deciding to go back to flatbeds but then I saw how much wrenching the mechanic was doing on all of ours (the place I worked) and said NO WAY!

That is nuts. I've driven a lot of dump trucks, (and yes, many of which were overloaded) and never saw anything like this. You'd think there would have been some indication on a walk around. Nasty vibration, unusual clunking. Something to indicate a problem. Dump trucks are the least of all trucks to be inspected, even by the drivers, ( and you'd think they would be considering the abuse they go through) so this doesn't really surprise me, but I guarantee you, next time, if this guy still drives a truck, will pay a little more attention to the suspension. I'm sure some repair shop is sweating bullets right now.

Hi drvrtech, like I say, I drove a lot of dump trucks, several were Macks, and it appears this truck had the camelback suspension and drop in rears. The only thing, it seems, that holds the axle in place is a hook like thing on one of the leaf springs and a big square clamp on the springs( and probably a track rod on the top, not sure.) Anyway, it could very well have been a shop screwup. WOW! http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__vjcuVchhnA/SmOk9EuAgQI/AAAAAAAABnk/2zF2RbV8n_Q/s400/MackPa1.gif
