I just looked into the DAT load app. The rates are pretty bad. A 465 mile run and they wanted to pay a whopping $600 for it. To add insult to injury, the commodity was roofing shingles and they said it HAD to be tarped! What a joke?! $1.29 for flatbed including a tarp job lol yeah ok.

Ya, I can see that. Freight sucks in DE but good out of NC for flatbed

Just gets to me that these leeches think free labor is acceptable and that they needed SHINGLES that sit on a roof and are stored outdoors unprotected need to be tarped. It's just insulting.

At least shingles are easy to tarp. I use steel tarps.

True but I won't do it. I had this happen once when I was a company driver. Called the receiver and they said don't bother tarping. The rates alone are insulting. I'd deadhead or sit before pulling that crap.

It's not the broker most of the time. The shippers know what lanes pay. The shippers also ask 20 brokers to give them a quote and the lowest bidder gets the contract. If the load doesn't move the broker calls the shipper or the other way around and more money is put on the load until it moves.

If you have one of the big boys like Swift or TMC that just unloaded and they need to get their truck to NC to pick up a load for one of their direct customers that load will be gone in a second.

This trucking world favors the large companies, not the independents!!!

    JimmyWells Thanks this.

Agreed. I didn't get emotional with the broker over it. Just asked why shingles needed to be tarped. Don't even get me started on how they are stacking the deck in their favor via laws and regulations to remove us from the industry.
