The 12.7 I had in my FLD didn’t have a filter. When I was running green back in the day I’d just test at service and every now and then toss in one of those tablets that would restore the additives. Eventually I flushed the green and start running red and never looked back.

I have had to drain it like 4 more times because I was waiting on hoses to show up and the old ones kept leaking and I kept fixing it with junk I had. I finally got all the new hoses and I will drain the coolant again here after I run it for awhile. It is much much much cleaner. No grit and dirt in the buckets when I drain it. Once all my new coolant shows up I will drain and clean it again.

I guess I will save the money then. I just like when stuff runs CLEAN. I hate dirty fluids and ####.

Coolant filters are pretty rare these days. At least I haven't seen one on the ag or heavy equipment side of things in years.

Flush it good every year and enjoy not having the filter. It's main purpose way back was as a way to add additives to the coolant.

Good to know. I have always had older equipment and it has always had the filters. I just assumed it was good to have. This particular 12.7l doesn't have one but I have seen some that do. Honestly after about the 2nd flush the coolant was pretty clean at that point.

Actually you never want to mix green antifreeze with red antifreeze, it can cause a chemical reaction and damage an engine.

My understanding is is basically mix NO colors. I know you can put the yellow universal with red ELC OAT, orange OAT(NOT DEXCOOL) and green. I know cause I have done it. Other than that you really shouldn't mix any colors.

You never want to mix red or green, or orange antifreeze. It is best NOT to mix any different color antifreeze together. I run red, it is for extended use.
