I am going to take my written test tomorrow! I am starting to get excited about starting my new career! I really appreciate all of the information that is on here.
Without this site, I would have made some other decisions, that I am sure I would have come out ok, but would not have been the best one for me!
That is what I love about America! We have choices!

I would argue the point that a person may be able to drive after 4 weeks, but are they as good of a driver as they would have been if they had an additional 4 months training?

The extra training has to be better regardless if you are doing ok or not.

    Just my two cents worth.

Its alot more than just driving a truck.

4 months is still not enough time to show you everything you need to know. But its a good enough time to give the trainee the tools to solve the problems they may face.

When I was a trainer, and later when I was a safety instructor, most of the trouble I found was with drivers who had between 6 months and two years of experience. Yeah, they could handle the truck fine in most conditions... but that was enough to make 'em overconfident.
One in particular managed to (in the course of two weeks) barrel across a four-lane highway at 65mph (on a two lane back road), destroying 60% of his Dr. Pepper load... two liter bottles. Then, if that weren't enough, he was caught riding up against the governor at 65mph on glare ice on I-25.

I know this thread is old, but it has been very informative. I start my training with Prime on May 10th. Emton, I enjoyed reading your journey. It gives me a better understanding on what to expect. Are you still driving with Prime?

Sure am. Just picked up a trainee on Saturday. Ran a load down to Laredo, and then a load of flowers up to Wilmington, DE. Good luck at Prime and welcome aboard.
