Although not mandatory, its definitely best to get your class A permit before arriving in Springfield. They cram alot into the 5 day orientation and its just one less thing to worry about. There were alot of people stressing over passing the permit test and you may as well go ahead and eliminate the possibility of getting sent home for not passing.
As far as the road and pre-trip test, those are a little further down the line. The only "real" test you would have during orientation are the permit (if necessarily), drug test and the simulators which are more so evaluations. I got my permit in Springfield and when we took our paper copies to the DMV they issued us hard copies right then and there. I was under the impression that it would be the same process everywhere but I guess not, so I would definitely bring your paper copy. Ask your recruiter just to make sure.

As far as I know a paper copy is good as long as you still have the hard copy of your regular license. If you had to surrender that, and have only paper, you're prolly not good to go. Best talk to recruiter and verify that.

Thanks for all the great info! I'm sure I will find out most of my answers as I go through the research I've been doing, but I thought it probably best to go to people with actual experience instead of marketing hype.
I'm looking to get my CDL and get working, I've been a single father taking care of my son who just turned 18 and I'm looking to get back into the workforce (after almost 2 years of dealing with a troubled teen) and I have heard some people say Prime requires no gaps in your work history, which, for me, has been fairly non-existant lately.
Now that my son's 18 and out on his own, I'm itching to get back to work, though in todays economy obviously it's not the best time to get re-started.
Will my work history be a problem, I have clean driving record, can pass the drug test, I'm 35, Have my Minnesota Drivers License, but no CDL obviously yet, no Felonies, I had a minor bumper bump with no damage, but it's on my record (August 08, so it's actually almost gone)
What do you all think? How willing are they to work with you? -
Well I submitted my application to Prime, figured it's a good way to find out.
Hopefully that'll work, but I'm still looking around and looking at other companies as well of course.

you will get better cdl instruction # prime
and higher starting pay once you are solo....
the rest is up to YOU -
How long does it usually take to hear back? called and left a message with the recruiter that the operator forwarded me to, but they never called back.
-
My main concern is employment history, being that I've been a stay at home single dad for the last 2+ish years...
