Three days of orientation... first will be redoing all of the application stuff you've already done - they want it in ink. Then the microscope - driving record, DAC report, urinalysis, doctors inspection...
Once you get through that, there will be a really minor drive test - unless they have changed it, all you do is drive a rig around the training pad and show them you can shift - up and down. They've got a simulator now, so it may be on that.
Finally some standard classes with easy tests. If you can stay awake, you basically get all the answers as you go. Hazmat cert, maintenance, sexual harrasment... the usual stuff. Then you get a trainer... although you may go into a holding pattern here depending on availability.
The skills test comes later when you do your "ACE-I" upgrade to A-seat. You'll get 60k miles to practice offsets. You're trainer will probably not be impressed with what you can do. They all get spoiled because when a PST student gets his CDL, he's got more time behind the wheel than you will.
Get used to 4-wheelers being jerks. Remember how you got PO'd when chance put you behind a big truck? Well, the shoe's on the other foot now, so to speak! Good Luck!

One full week with my trainer in the books. We logged somewhere on the plus side of 5000 miles. Ran real hard and then it seemed like it was going to slow down a bit. It didn't and we're getting a good start to this week. Shifting getting smoother and I'm not killing our fuel mileage. Realizing how much goes into it makes me glad I found a company driver for the training portion. My instructor (a L/O) did not spend much time on the subject. He also didn't know much about operating as a company driver, and there are many differences. Real happy I'm gleaning this info out of U2 now and not trying to figure it all out as a solo. Something to think about when deciding on a trainer.
Keep the faith and stay safe!Ducks Thanks this. -
glad to hear from you..be safe out there and keep us updated

Hey Emton, do ya have to wear shades around U2 to keep the glare from that chrome dome of his from blinding ya?!!

Bill is a lease operator for Prime and as this is week 10 without a paycheck I can assure you that he does not have a super huge ego. Nor do many others I have met. Too busy trying to make a freaking living at this place to worry about that crap.

Sitting at a receiver in Ohio with too much time on my hands. Been wanting to give everyone a breakdown on training pay as the question comes up quite often. So here's my numbers from our first three weeks:
Week 1: 8/19 - 8/25 (Got CDL on 19th then home until picked up on 8/24)
Miles: 159 # .077 = 12.32
Fuel Bonus 159 # .007 = 1.03
Per diem 159 # .042 = 6.76
Guarantee 375.18
Per diem (Guar.) 205.74
Gross 601.03
Week 2: 8/26 - 9/1
Miles 5267 = 408.18
Fuel 5267 = 36.86
PD 5267 = 223.86
Stop = 10.00
Gross 678.90
Week 3: 9/2 - 9/8
Miles 6466 = 501.10
Fuel 6466 = 22.62
PD 6466 = 274.82
Gross 798.54
They tax the miles and fuel but not the per diem. They also take back 25.00 a week until I've paid back what I borrowed during student phase. Also, Prime is not taking out for the loan. They simply forgive half at 6 mos. and the rest at 12 mos. All in all a pretty good deal compared to other companies I researched and the training has been top notch. Very happy I went with Prime.Last edited: Sep 11, 2009
CadetTrucker and JimTheHut Thank this. -
Thanks Emton for your updates. As a hopeful perspective Prime newbie, I find our values in training are the same and have helped my decision to go with Prime that much easier!
Congratulations on a job well done!
