Because as with the price of anything, it's about supply and demand. Mega companies as well as the one horse show buy thousands and thousands of trucks a year, almost exclusively with sleepers, so that means they are also selling thousands of them a year. There isn't that kind of supply with the day cabs, especially when a sleeper truck is much heavier and can't always be used. In those applications it has to be a day cab, whereas a day cab can do all the same work a sleeper truck can, driving up the demand on a very modest supply of trucks.

Wait a minute...I would say more if not easily as many day cab trucks when factoring all of the bodies (flat, dump, mixer, loggers, etc....)

Do you own the trailer too? The schedule you mentioned is one I can get behind. My wifes biggest concern is that I'd be gone all the time. Coming off of active, duty, she'd like to see me more than the Navy has allowed. I'm a diesel mechanic of what will be 12 years. So if I can combine that with day cab truckin,I'd be set. I dont mind the occasional overnight. Its the self writing of schedules and decent pay (not millions or billions) I'm after. What's your typical load pay ? I too have been eyeing pre 2000 trucks. I can fix it myself, plus a break down within 50miles of the house is much easier to deal with in my opinion.

It took a year to build relationships with dozens of brokers (after posting my truck/specs/capabilities/desires on ITS and DAT and updating numerous times per day) but now the phone rings a lot (other than the dead times for all of us of course :(...) and I just say yes if it fits my formula. You will need to determine what your truck/company/self makes per load......it really depends on a lot of things..

Not all o/o's use daycabs for local work. (Sone of like to have space and big impractical trucks to make life more interesting)
Most daycab freight would be dump trucks, tankers (gas, cement, ash, dry bulk products, asphalt oil, chemicals) - region dependent.
Where you live also dictates what a daycab is good for. In the northeast, you can find just about any work for a daycab.
