    If a mechanic takes oil pan off checks bearings, takes jakes off and fixes an oil leak, and says engine looks new, how promising is that?

    Depends on the mechanic and the repuability of himself and the shop.

    That a pretty indepth check, drivingir and mechanically checking oil and various fluid temps/pressures will be good enough. Also, sending a sample of coolant and oil to be testedcan tell uou a lot too. Just depends.
