They require it because it is the correct way to shift a non syncro truck trans. Learn the correct way to drive first, you need to know how to shift properly. A nub trying to float will destroy the trans. with a heavy haul load it may cause you to leave your trans scattered all over the highway when you mis-shift.

Either way your putting ware on the truck. Double clutching puts more wear on the clutch, but way less on the trans. If your bad at floating you will put wear on the drivetrain to. Most companies prefer to change a cluch then a trans so they want you to double clutch. In any case your employer has ni idea what you do once you leave their yard.

There is less wear and tear on the drivetrain over all by using the clutch. A clutch should last 500K miles. Most drivers I ve encountered are in too big of a hurry to shift correctly.
A truck is like a woman, and if you hurry either one of them you are not going to have a happy ending. Slowly caress them to get them to do there jobs, and it is less stress on both of you. And keep jake out of it he will screw up a perfect day when it comes to shifting.
Slow hand and gentle, just enough throttle to get her to gently slide in and out of gear.Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this. -

Tractor I started driving two years ago had 500,000 when I got in it. It liked to be floated more than dbl clutched. Last month they asked me to move into a 2013 brand new. While I was setting the tractor up and getting my personels secured the owner came in and had a little talk with me. The long and short of the talk was he would like me to dbl clutch his brand new truck, he gave me all the reasons, ect. heres what it boils down to, the man spent the money, it's his truck, and I will drive it the way he would like. If he had said the other way around and not to use the clutch then I would do that. As far as dbl clutching being harder than floating, not really, it is faster ( be a we tiny bit ) but I never feel like i'm in a race anyway. as far as any kind of debate about how should you shift your truck, whats wrong, whats right, it seems to me everyone should know what works best for them. It's none of my business. i got my own rig to worry about.
Happy trails

I'm going to go out on a limb here, may get whacked. But if you dbl clutch and your on a hill and dropping gears, you do run the risk of getting into too low a gear, which may have disastrous results.
I leaned to drive back in the day and my dad taught me the clutch was for starting only! Later when I went through driving school with Schlumberger, the Fuller transmission guys gave a presentation and said dbl clutching eliminates any thrust on the face of the gears when shifting, which prolongs transmission life.
I am a registered professional engineer, driver, lawyer and general blue collar kind of guy. I see the wisdom from a technical standpoint, but I fail to see the evidence because I have never personally tore up a transmission by floating. I run my stuff pretty hard, haul heavy (100K+), in fact I hauled a Cat D8K which weighs 110K by itself! My 50T tri-axle would barely lift the frame off the ground to move it. Had to raise the air pressure to get it up so I could haul it 15 miles up and down a mountainous region by Grants, NM. I say it is all about your preference, but if your driving for me you will NOT be dbl clutching! -

Exactly!
As soon as I got in the truck I told my examiner listen are you going to fail me if I don't use the clutch and she said no but I will have to Dock you points, then I said that's fine because this truck does not like a clutch she said as long as you are safe I won't fail you, then I said thank you very much....I think I used the clutch for backing up and taking off other......other than that....i think I actually conversated with her the whole entire time lol
