i reckon at 0-1 year trucking your the expert. When you have a truck with a 10&4 and you do all double clutching your gonna need knee replacement surgury. Any driver who knows what he is doing will tell you a float shift if done right is a lot smoother than double clutching.... I have built a couple tranmissions in my day and float shifting did not cause them to wear out.... And your not gonna be pulling 80000 up a 14% very often unless your logging more than likely.... Been all over the country and don't every remember a hiway with 14% grade, but i ain't seen everything yet. But i am close lol.... ( old guys rule) i saw plenty of steep grades when logging and rocking logging roads not over 16% thats the steepest i remember on a road, but up to 25% down into a landing and the shovel pushed and the d-8 pulled you out up to the flat . You didn't dare try going out by your lonesome.. Floating only puts excessive wear on a truck that has a driver who is not proficient at shifting... Clutches are made for stopping and starting.....
dbl clutching?

i hit 14% grades once a week or so. If you double clutch properly it wont hurt your knee because u don't push it in much. I can double or float smoothly, but double has more room for error on steep hills. i float on normal driving. If the hill is steep enough and the load is heavy enough you wont even get it out of gear floating because the truck falls back to quick. I drive a 13 and if you need to downshift into the lower 4, it really gets rough.
And don't you ever give me bs because I haven't been driving as long. I'm a professional driver making as much money and driving as safe as drivers who have been driving 10+ years. You assumption that I don't know what I'm talking about is just plain rude.

PA, but i run 47 states plus Canada...are u talking about upgrades or down. what do you mean about being in to low a gear? If im downshifting, i downshift just enough to get up while having high enough rpm.
