Wow a lot of negative. 07 DD 14L is pre EGR. It is an oldCrete truck. I have driven one similar to it for 4 years and was averaging 6.5to 7 mpg so that's not the issue. Not looking to go fast interested in pullingpower up hills.

07 would be an egr engine, but prior to dpf.

Thank you for clearing that up ... from all I have read it was08/09 I was supposed to avoided like the plague.

Engine year and model year are entirely different with engine year one year behind model year.
IE, a 2007 MY century would have an 06 engine in it.
Epa04 is your egr. EPA07 is egr/DPF and EPA2010 is EPA/EGR/DEF. All of those ae the year the engines started with those emissions.
Model years would be "typical" for 2005, 2008 and 2011 respectively. There will also be transition or "bridge" engines that don't follow those rules. -
Well here are my reasons for picking the 07. The co I amgoing with requires Ebor so it can't be too old. From reading these forums08/09 is the years they were using aftermarket add ones to meet requirementsand should be avoided. And 2010 start to creep out of my "pay cash" range. So 07it is

You can go back into any engine that has electronic engine controls. That would be late 90'a with the E series cats and Cummins N14 or series 60's

Best Series 60s were 12.7 L from 96-99 and maybe 00. After those years they were steadily retarding the timing in order to meet emissions and milage decreased. Then came EGR and DPF and the EPA took your MPG.
