well, that's 4 days (1800 miles) at 7.2 or better.

maintaining 7.1-7.4. Did have a dip to 6.8 during a heavy run through some hills, but to be honest I was ticked off and not really concentrating on progressive shifting. (I had just found out I was missing my 24th anniversary)

Today and yesterday, Iowa to Salt Lake, UT via I80. Weight 79400, 2 notches forward on 5th wheel: 6.9 mpg.

Nice job! That's one stretch where cruise control really hurts mpg compared to bleeding off speed on the hills & waiting for downhill to reaccelerate you (especially when heavy)...

I used to drive 4axle truck and trailers in WA/OR, so "roller coasting" (my Dad's phrase) is kinda 2nd nature to me now... lol. I just had break the habit of maxing out the rpms (16-1700) for speed.

Roller coastering is my one main big gripe about the trucks at 62. Being able to get a few more mph running up can mean that you can hit the top and still be top gear for the ride down the other side with just feathering the throttle, big mpg saver. But trying to say that sometimes you gotta go faster for better MPG just falls on deaf ears lol.

I agree. If my rig was set to 70, I'd still cruise at 60-65 because that's where I'm comfortable (in the granny lane before someone sqwacks..). I'd just use the extra speed to boost for hills.

Looks like I'll be moving my postings to the Interstate board. I'm scheduled to attend orientation there in a week. Oh and GTI "let me go" after finding out I was looking for opportunities... If you start looking around, make sure they don't find out before your ready. At least GTI got me to my home terminal for asking me to clean out the rig.
