most ink-jet inks are, I think, alcohol based. Gonna be difficult to freeze them. THe problem MIGHT be if the mechanism that moves the print head gets too cold... but if you fax or email the logs, that shouldn't be an issue.
Unless DOT gets involved, and we all know they NEVER do that!
I'd probably pop for a small, cheap, laser printer of some sort. -
DDT sounds like a good program to use. Maybe the convenience of it. Dunno, but from reading this thread. The one thing that stuck out in my mind(being a former puter tech) is. Are you prepared if your system crashed? What if the hard drive takes a crap? What are you doing for this kind of situations? Are you actually doing a backup of your logs to a disk? Are you doing both paper and soft copy? I would like to hear some input on this .....

With the requirement to keep 7 days in possession I would print two copies. One for the company, and one for the 7 day thing in the truck.
As for ink freezing mine never has. My truck IS NOT kept warm when I'm on home time. -
with bunk heaters and apu's becoming more common it would not be a problem. imo

. Handwritting is the first battle, however I am beginning to realize those drivers using DDL needs to be "false checked" meaning all documents matched to their logs
The point of DDL is to utilize your hours to the best you can but it's not there to cheat so please do not use it as a cheating tool, but to help you split break (which tells you when you need to stop, all you need to do is remember it's my 8 hr brk or my 2 hour brk) it does your recap, it does your total hours etc. Just get a printer and wallla it's awesome! But do log legal! The program isn't to help you cheat it's to help you run legal and do your math/make it legible.
So use it to the reason it's there
I am glad your hubby uses it. IT's AWESOME! I just wish I got something (meal or something) for selling it, l.o.l.

DOT actually states you must keep a spare log book on the truck (even if using an on board computer device) just incase! SO if your printer/computer crashes you must immediately go to a log sheet! Now if you are printing your logs daily you should not have much of a problem providing the last 7 days worth of logsNO EXSCUSES DRIVERS
