Do you really have to ask others what they think, if it's only a 9 hour drive, the company is paying for the fuel, and you want to be home?? I'd be a hammer down, home bound before I got off the phone with the boss!!

Have a Merry Christmas whatever you do!!

well, if i were that interested i wouldve asked....you still can call back and ask. cant tell you about swift, but i live "off the lanes" in new york. ive been told to deadhead a bunch to get home occasionally, and its always shown up on my check. the only way any of em screwed me was usa truck....if my next load was closer to where i was before i was sent home, theyd pay me from where i was before i was sent home to next pickup rather than a to b to c. but they never used that to justify sending me deadhead on purpose close to where id been before home. it might mean 50-100 miles less tho.

You would rather sit in your truck @ a truck stop for days on end for free as opposed to going home?

Bumpy, TRKRSHONEY and snafu Thank this.

If a company told me just deadhead home for Xmas, well the truck would be in gear & rolling before conversation was over...

i wouldn't let them have 2nd thoughts about it...

be thankful they would do that...that shows that they do have some compassion for drivers to at least get you home to family for the holidays.

He's gonna have a hard time getting the doggies in his truck again after a ride like that.

Good companies ALWAYS pay you whatever it takes to get home for Christmas. Last Christmas, the company I work for flew me home and I was paid hourly from the time I woke up that morning at our Calgary terminal, went on duty, called a cab to get me to the airport until the time the airport limo dropped me off at our home terminal and my paperwork for the trip was done and turned in.
They do that for all the drivers.
