Everyone remember highway 666 in New Mexico it when thru Shiprock NM. They renamed it 491 couple years ago. They was supposed to the most deadly road in NM. Lot of locals would drink and drive on that road.

I40 seems to be the common theme and thats was my first guess as well. I hate i40 its my least favorite road to travel in any part of the country. But it is unavoidable in some situations

I would go along with most of the 48 states more or less. There are smaller roads that are pretty dangerous given certain situations.

Are you are talking about highways in general, or specific areas of highways in each state? There is a big difference...
The Gorge (40 thru NC) is a lot more dangerous than 95 in NC, but yet there are more deaths statically on 95 than 40... Just to name one of a HUGE amount of roads...Bud A., WildTiger1990, jethro712 and 1 other person Thank this. -
They have fixed one of the deadliest stretches in Iowa, Avenue of the Saints through Cedar Falls, Iowa. That road had memorials everywhere until they were banned.
Verona Road US 151/18 near Madison, WI is another that's been fixed.Bud A., mjd4277, lovesthedrive and 1 other person Thank this. -

Honestly, I thought CA-138 would have been top of the list. 395 would have been my second guess.

I'm sure there's a few here that remember what a nice road us 71 used to be in northwest Arkansas.
