I don't understand why there is so much hate for lease purchase. I am currently in a lease purchase I'm it's been working for me. I don't care what title you give me. I normally say glorified company driver. I have 0 interest in ever owning my truck. I signed on the dotted line cause I wanted more control over where, when and how I ran. I have that. Since I started leasing I have averaged $1600 a week take home before taxes. This is after fuel and all payments.

$1600 isnt enough. i assume you are also tracked or have an eobr which is anything but safe. in 7 days thats $228.57 a day b4 taxes. i know "good" company drivers that make that and more. i dont mean to be a jerk. just stating some facts. Develop a thirst for knowledge and you can really better yourself.

$1600 is an average. That includes time off. Without counting the 20 days I have taken off since June 10th the average goes way up. Again, I am happy with what I make and how I run.

see the thing is, we don't understand why you would want to make a truck payment, have the responsibility for the truck repairs, ins, etc etc, without any real control over the equipment( for example change the gear ratio, adjust ecm parameters, cut a hole in the sleeper for a roof ac, etc etc) while making much less than you could be making.

keep in mind I'm speaking to the general you, not you specifically. at 1600 a week profit you are doing much better than the average lp guy, how many miles are you running on average to do that 1600?

by comparison I almost always do 2200 a week profit minimum. and I've spent over 12 weeks at home this year, plus many days off while on the road. very rarely do I run more than 2200 miles

so in short, our problem with lease purchase is you work a lot harder, for a lot less money, all while having no real control over the truck.

For me it's simple. I don't want the responsibility of being a true owner op. I did want more control of where and when I run. I can refuse a load if I wish, I can go home when I want. Basically I consider myself a company driver that makes more, and has a say in what I do.
That being said I have been approved to buy my own truck through lone mountain, so now I'm considering that too.

    X2 :)

If they can't find the right forum for this thread how will they find the other? :biggrin_25522:

We could put a lease forum as a sub-forum under the truckers rant forum. It seems like a good fit.

To the OP try using the search feature. Type in "lease" and read all kinds of bickering and dreams of making $250,000 a year. :)

But yes the dears hang out in the Truck Information Forums.

Adding a lease op forum would make everything more informative.

The O/O's answer half the lease operators' questions with : "Dude, you shouldn't have done lease op. That's your problem right there." - instead of any kind of advise they can actually use. (Especially if it isn't a walk away lease. Kind of too late to change their mind now.)

As for the lease ops answering O/O questions - most of the lease ops are newbs. That's the only reason they would even be doing a lease op is because they don't know any better yet.

I think it would be a great idea...

They should have a section for just ''lease operators'' and one for the ''true'' O/O with his/her own Authority..They even have a section for the Landstar O/O...

You have my vote on this one..It would make it much much easier for people to get insight on which way they want to go.It would narrow things down alot for people to do the research on which program is best for them.

Count another vote for yes, I'm not an o/o yet but plan on buying my own rig in a year or so after I get my maintenance fund up where I want it. I'm not interested in leasing and it would make it simpler when looking through here to have everything categorized correctly.
There is a huge segment of this industry that are leasing, they should have their own section.
