Is it really difficult to pick up the cb and ask a broke down driver if they need assistance?

I beat my meager salary if I was in your way going slower than you, you sure as hell will be on that cb cusing me out....

And I also bet next weeks meager salary all of these trucks aren't all being driven by "new school" truckers.....

    There now I feel better

I have never kept "score" but,not many ever reply back when I ask. I wonder though,if the truck DID need help, how many do NOT have at least one of these to ASK for assistance:cell phone,C.B.,or in some cases, qualcomm?

I was passed by what I might consider was a drunk driver last week on my way back to Pittston. He was driving a beat up ragged out Freightliner that had middle eastern writing on the trailer. I had to hit the shoulder while slamming on the brakes to avoid having my hood removed. About an hour later I passed him broke down on the shoulder standing there with his ###### on his head looking somewhat confused while looking at his engine. Instead of stopping to kick his Arse I just waved as I went by. This is not my normal way of offering help, I always do give a shout out, and even have stopped when I've seen drivers outside of their truck putting out triangles. In this particular case I figured it was better to just drive by.

Calling on a cb to a stranded vehicle has become an antiquated notion. We have cell phones, onboard computers, and personal laptops in trucks now a days. When a driver breaks down he is either on the cell phone calling his company or sending a message across the onboard computer to breakdown to get assistance.

Drivers are told in truck driving school not to stop on a highway to render aid for fear of becoming involved in an accident or being hijacked as well.

If you want to help, contact the local police department for that area and ask that a cop stop and check on the driver.

I know if I was broke down and needed help, I would be out there flagging down help, not just sitting there looking dumb, waiting for someone to ask me over the CB.

i drive local, and many a time radio/call back to the plant and have them call about a broke down local truck. that is about as good as i can do, i can't give a ride, parts, tires, mechanic half a day, or trade out trucks, so unless a driver makes an effort to signal for help i won't be stopping.

And I agree with you, but still providing that CB call asking if they need help is more of a courteous gesture. You may/or may not have time to stop, but if he asked you to call 911 for assistance in reply, would you? Now give it that being courteous isn't being taught as it use to be to these kids now-a-days but if you were broke down, no phone, qualcomm down, and CB is all you had to rely on, would you like some one to ignore you?

Maybe just a useless rant, but just my 2c.

911 sure if the car was on fire, sunk in a river with people inside, or someone laying in the road. Otherwise a call to the local cops will suffice.

I believe in being prepared. I always carry extra stuff like food, clothes, blankets, cell phone, money etc. I have NEVER in almost 20 years of driving needed anyone to stop and "rescue me or help me for that matter." Call it pride if you like but I believe in doing for myself.

I know when I started driving back in 1992 I had a steer tire blow out. No cell phone at the time and no onboard computer. It was 3 am during the middle of winter in Maine along I95. After setting out my triangles, I simply put on my winter coveralls and walked a mile back to the exit I had just passed and called my companies road service hotline. I then walked back to my truck, stripped down, laid in the bunk, and waited for the service truck to arrive.

The guy arrived in about 3 hours and replaced the tire. I signed the work order and was under way again by 0700.
