Drag link! It's a ball joint in a sense but once it's part of a component that is how you call/order it.
Put some gloves on and see if you can twist it easily. A new one is stiff and you can't move it with your hands.
Have you hit any good pot holes lately? Feel your wheels after running to see if they are warmer than normal. You could have bearing issues. You can also jack the wheel off the ground and lay a fixed object beside it. Rotate the tire and see if it moves up and down or in and out.
Other than that a tire can be out of balance.
If you are going into a shop for the repair go ahead and take it and let them diagnose it.Cjh_army Thanks this. -
Yes it sounds like its TIME to hit the Garage / Mechanics for a look over , before your next thread is HOW COSTLY IS A WRECKER

Do you have any rust coming from the Pittman arm- steering gear connection. I've seen that loosen up and give a terrible wobble. having a helper turn the steering wheel back and forth can help locate play in all the components
25(2)+2 and CondoCruiser Thank this. -
I'll do that as well. I'm trying to troubleshoot the exact cause so downtime will be at a minimum, I have a load going 700 miles, and then she goes into a shop.

Any freightliner draglink you can twist.. I have a bunch of them.. New used off the lot.. they give about half a round... I was in the middle of replacing one called freightliner got the new one put it on.. and it did the same dang thing... Called freightliner and talked to the shop foreman and he said it has to have give in it to work properly.. So i wasted 494 bucks... I guess I have a spare now...
The way the foreman explained it to me was twist is ok... up and down movement is not.. but I could probably go talk to another guy and get another story..25(2)+2 and CondoCruiser Thank this. -
This is the first thing to fix, I have never seen a front steer with no weights, even if you had balance beads or centrematics you should still balance steers....CondoCruiser, RockinChair, bullhaulerswife and 1 other person Thank this.

We have this issue ALL the time.. it's almost a certainty that its the tires! They will look fine but if you have them removed and balanced, they will be 24 oz or MORE out of balance and have to be scrapped.. Sometimes with tires with an outer "rib" you can see the wear, but on some tires they are just so out of balance that they cannot be weighted correctly..

When was the last time the shocks were replaced?
I had a truck that had a shake at 50 and I had the tires balanced which helped but didn't stop the shake. I had the truck in for PM and told them to replace the shocks (they had 150k on them) and when I picked up the truck, the shake was gone - they only replace the shocks.
I can only think that replacing the shocks fixed the problem but also thought when they took the tires off, they put them on differently (different position) - don't know and don't care, no more shake.RockinChair Thanks this. -
Could be a bad wheel, shocks, swaybar etc... Sometimes new tires can be defective also. It only takes a very minor thing for it to start and then once the tires pickup the pattern they start to wear that way and ultimately make it worse.
