I never done a truck but I can't count the car front ends I've rebuilt. A truck shouldn't be any different. When you put new stuff on it won't budge with hand pressure from the tight tolerances. You can put a pipe wrench or other leverage on it and it will move. Easy twisting movement is the first warning sign that it is wearing to total slop and then falls apart. Tight tolerances is what makes your steering responsive. He probably fed you a line for $494. Up and down is wore out like he said because the ball socket enlarged. Twists easily is the step before. It's not like it can't be used if movement isn't excessive. One can jack the wheel off the ground and see the play by wiggling the tire if it's excessive.

Usually that will bring a wobble at all speed ranges. A set upper speed range wobble is usually a balance or wheel bearings are worn.

Shocks will do it too but your tires will start showing that uneven chop on the tread. Yep there is nothing better than holding a shaking wheel all day. :)

No.. I rebuild everything on my trucks.. and you can check any freightliner pete or Kw and find that be it new or used that draglink has give in it... It is alot different than a car because it has to work with 80k plus behind it... I mean saying it can't be much different from a car is like saying a rifle isn't much different than a pistol.. yeah the princple is the same but the performance and tolerances are not... Look at the design of the drag link it is designed to move.. but don't believe me put a new one on like I did and see it does the same thing..

And all you are checking by jacking the front end up and checking or movement is your king pins.. or your bearings but that is easy to find.. the wheel generally will fall off it it is to far gone.. if not it will drag on the brakes(if not to far gone)

    CondoCruiser Thanks this.
