Well, the recruiter said he can get me in January 5th, which works for me and apparently I'm getting a paid ticket to Salt Lake City (I'm in Laramie WY). Like I said, they checked my driving record (which was fine) but no idea if they did a background check yet. I assume it's one of the first things they do since I consented to all of that on my initial application, otherwise why waste time talking to me, ya know? I just figured there would be way more back and forth communication than there is currently.

What are some of the better options, if I may ask? I heard Roehl's was pretty good, but they never emailed or called me back.

If SLC is like Corsicanna, Tx school, they're closed from a day or 2 before Xmas till after New Years.
I really liked the school in Tx.

You made a good choice going with Swift. If you were given a start date you're golden but like Otter said, check in and be a squeaky wheel. BTW, go to the Swift thread under Trucking Companies and ask your questions there. After the initial flurry of trolls, comments from " experts" who don't know jack except for what they heard from someone else and the losers who were too useless to cut it at Swift you will get real answers.

Swfit is a great choice for starting off. CRST and CREngland, those are two of the WORST. Swift is a starter company, but its a GREAT starter company. Trust me, they have standards.

I don't think Roehl hires in Wyoming.

I agree...ever since jerry took back the company private as I'm assuming he got tired of all the wrecks and decided to clean the company up and being private he could so without outside interference. ...while they still have their issues just like everyone else, they have drastically improved...light years ahead of England

I agree with drvrtech. Swift is not a bad company to start with or dare I say stay with. There's drivers who've been there 20+ years. They've really invested in their drivers with better equipment and higher pay. They aren't the bad company they were 10 years ago. It's a big company, huge actually and you'll still have all the big company bs to deal with. But I would tell anyone to start their career there. You made a good choice. Keep us up to date on your training and good luck!

A Swift driver came up to me about a month ago, he was interested in trying tanking and we got to talking the way drivers do you know. We ended up having lunch together and he had been with Swift 8 years and he said things had been better since the owner came back. Pretty insightful conversation, I left with a different perspective on Swift.

Good to hear at least one of these megas is trying to clean up their act. I have one question as it pertains to swift tho. The "award winning drivers" on their trailers> Just what award are they talking about?

Back in 92-93-94 and 95 there were several dedicated contracts (Kellogg's, Target, K-Mart, Sears (and some other more local ones) that Swift drivers excelled in on time performance, customer service, and exceptional service to customers. Also, Minnesota and Ohio awarded several drivers for emergency roadside response situations and "above the average" (I think that is how they worded it) courtesy to other motorists.

That was all back in the days when Swift was governed at 57 mph, also there were some smaller companies that sent Corporate some award letters for "escort service" of their trucks through Ohio. Turns out, their drivers couldn't keep their foot(s) out of the firewall and fell in behind a Swift truck to keep from getting speeding tickets. It was meant as a joke, but we drivers took it as a great big "ATTA BOY"!
