I'm rooting for you either way Dave. I hope all drivers find great work. I understand how you feel and I don't blame you one bit actually. Keep us updated.

By fear I meant that you were afraid it wouldn't pan out in one of numerous possible ways. Fear of the unknown, not "quaking with fear." Fear of the unpredictability and possibility of not getting enough hours, etc. Call it concern if you like. I wasn't trying to immasculate you or anything. I readily admit my own fears, big and small. And I readily admit how I also over analyze things and sometimes have trouble making important decisions.
I'll let that thing go you said about my female trait (gossip). I realize why you said that. Sorry I got you heated. I truly meant for you not to take offense, but I completely understand why you did anyway. Have a good weekend, Dave.TheyCallMeDave Thanks this. -
However, right now, unless something were to change drastically in terms of what Estes could possibly offer me in the near future, if I took the combo position, I don't know if I can justify the "what if' that comes with that particular position. Unfortunately that comes with the territory in the LTL world it seems, if you have no prior LTL experience, and I respect that. As I said, I haven't turned down Estes and I have yet to get an actual start date. However, I've voiced my concerns with the TM this afternoon after having a long talk with him about the position when I got further details, and he said we'd talk on Monday, and that we could probably "work something out."
What that entails is beyond me, and I certainly don't want any favors, or anything of that nature starting out, but in the mean time I'll try this oversize place out, as I did my driving test today, and I pick up my truck tomorrow with the plan to get dispatched Monday. If all goes well and the paycheck is as fat as they claim come Friday, (obviously you have to account for the learning curve) then I might just stay put. But a week is about all I need, to know if the claims made by the boss man are accurate, trucking or not. I've mentioned it before but I'm a flatbed fan, and this is one step up the totem pole in that realm, and if all goes well, it could possibly lead to me getting a pretty solid gig locally with any of the great, home daily outfits that run heavy construction equipment etc, as I'll not only run over-sized loads on flatbeds at the place that hired me today, but I'll be trained on RGN's etc as well, so I AM thinking ahead in that regard. So, regardless of what it looks like to some, there is a method to my perceived madness. If it ends up being smoke and mirrors like A LOT of trucking jobs, then I'll more than likely land at Estes at that point.
The way I see it, I could sit at home for a week, or a week and a half doing nothing (which I have been), or give this place a shot, that could potentially pad my resume, which would lead me to some equally as profitable gigs locally that are home daily in my area, that are comparable to any LTL carrier around here, or at least #### close.

This job crap lately has just about driven me up the wall if I'm being 100% honest here. You are correct in my concern for the unknown. Being the only bread-winner with a toddler, can make decisions that seem like a no brainer, feel like complicated arithmetic unfortunately.
Either way, that's the only thing I dislike about forums etc, you can mean well, and if worded wrong, regardless of your intention, the person on the other side of the screen can take it in the complete opposite direction and before you know it, there's a "online beef". You don't hear the way the words are projected, or the emotion & vibe with which they are conveyed. You only see the words. At the end of the day we're all human and things like this are bound to happen, especially when the conversations are in text. However, I don't hold grudges, especially over online things so as far as I'm concerned, nothing happened. Have a good weekend yourself Bob.

ltl isn’t for everyone. i run linehaul mon-fri (nights) and ill say it’s about as cush and easy as it gets.
i can say with 100% honesty that city p&d does not entice me whatsoever. long hours and much more bs, to boot. as far as i’m concerned, leaving work after 7pm defeats the purpose of working day shift. i worked jobs like that for 15+ years. i’ve been on nights for almost 3 years now and find that i have much more free time at the expense of a short weekend. speaking of which, i need to get my nap in or i’ll be a grouchy old-young man today.TheyCallMeDave and Bob Dobalina Thank this. -
Now that I'm on linehaul, it would be very difficult to go back to P&D. I actually get to eat dinner with my family and help with bathtime and bedtime with the baby. That never happened as a low-seniority city guy.TheyCallMeDave Thanks this. -
