In the past they didn't but for new hires I believe it's required. Before I left the refeer division they were getting back hauls out of Texas that required hazmat.

Gypsy's right. They will front you the money for the security check, but don't mistake that as a reimbursement. That's just what I remember from the saftey meeting that covered it. my dispatcher mentioned it, I passed. hasn't come up again. but, that could easily be more because of my flatbeditude.
