I'm not picking on the op with this statement. I'll post this in hope that others read it and it will help them.

If people spent the one extra second it take per post to type out a complete word instead of abbreviations that many of us don't know they would be so much better off.

Giving up so easily on a load that obviously gets hauled into Colorado all the time??? Not bringing your top game are you? Watch that tail swing too.

having both 48 and 53 foot decks, we most likely would have pulled this load on a few of the long wheel base trucks. The same ones we use for 60 foot rebar.

First oversize load, was not sure and not a forced dispatch company so I went the safe route. Turning that load down and learning a little more is infinitely better than going with it and possibly getting a visit from a scale house or truck enforcement. Only been driving for 2 years and still young, I have all the time in the world to get to my long term goal.

It's all good driver. Get yourself an oversized load book with all the rules for all the states. It's also handy to have the web address and phone numbers for the oversized load Dept of each state DOT. Same for the toll roads and bridges authorities because they usually have different rules than the DOT. Sounds like you'll be ready next time.

I could be wrong but I don't see anything to suggest that you can ignore front overhang in your calculations.

Many (most? All?) states have an oversize permit guide book. Just Google *state name* oversize permit manual. I have the states I visit regularly saved just in case.
